Hornets sting Hart County, 48-0 By JOHN VERSER Glasgow Daily Times Metcalfe County forced six turnovers and extended its shutout streak to 15 quarters as the No. 7 Hornets took out Hart County 48-0 Friday night.
It was the third straight shutout for the Hornets, who improved to 6-0 with the win. Metcalfe rushed for 208 yards and six touchdowns in the victory, led by Daniel DeLeon, who had 13 carries for 141 yards and two scores. Jeffrey White added two touchdowns on the ground, while Will Warf and Winston Harbison had a score each. Warf was also 6-of-9 passing for 86 yards. White put the Hornets on top with 7:52 to go in the first quarter, plunging in on a 1-yard run for a 7-0 lead. DeLeon added to Metcalfe’s lead with a 35-yard scamper early in the second quarter for a 14-0 advantage. The Hornets got another score on DeLeon’s second touchdown of the game, a two-yard run with 5:13 to go in the first half to give Metcalfe a 21-0 lead. The Hornets got four touchdowns in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. White scored on a 4-yard touchdown run at the 10:29 mark of the quarter, and Warf went in on a 1-yard run at the 5:04 mark. B.J. Fields returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown with 4:10 remaining in the frame, giving Metcalfe a 42-0 lead. Harbison scored on a four-yard run with 1:56 left in the quarter, pushing the Hornets’ advantage to 48-0. Aaron Miller led Metcalfe’s defensive effort with a team-high nine tackles. David Coffey had eight tackles and a fumble recovery, while Warf recovered two fumbles and added six stops. DeLeon also had six tackles and an interception, one of three on the night for the Hornets. The Hornets intercepted three Hart County passes and also recovered three fumbles. Metcalfe is back in action Friday with a 7 p.m. contest at unbeaten Green County. Green defeated Taylor County 56-12 on Friday to improve to 6-0 on the season. Green received votes in last week’s Associated Press Class 2A poll for an 11th place ranking.
