Glasgow came away happy on Senior Night.
The Lady Scotties got a pair of goals from Micha Elmore and one from Katherine Rogers to defeat Warren East 3-2 on Thursday night.
“The girls played real hard. I was real proud of them,” Glasgow coach Lora Garrett said. “When we kept the ball on the ground, we were very successful. We were passing well around, switching sides.
“Our defense played phenomenal. The back line did not leave the game. I know they were running out of gas, but they were phenomenal. And of course as usual, my goal keeper, Jessie Fant, is awesome.”
Elmore scored her first of two goals to put Glasgow on the scoreboard and her second came with 1:27 left in the first half to give the Lady Scotties a 2-1 lead.
“We had more speed, our front line versus their back line, and that’s basically what did it,” Garrett said. “Our speed in our front line allowed us to get a little push pass to ourselves and get behind them, then the girls were keeping the ball on the ground well.”
The Lady Scotties held a 2-1 lead at the half.
Rogers’ second half goal extended Glasgow’s lead to 3-1.
East came back to cut the lead to 3-2 on Hillary Jenkins’ score with 2:35 left in the game. That score came after Glasgow had emptied its bench.
Glasgow also honored its four seniors — Fant, Kristina Hapney, Jessica Lynch and Jessica Tyree — prior to Thursday’s match.
“All my seniors played their heart out tonight,” Garrett said. “You could tell how badly they wanted to win. Kristina Hapney is really disappointed that she didn’t get a goal. But she played her heart out and she put it in play several times, which allowed us to score a goal.”
The Lady Scotties are back in action Saturday with a 2 p.m. varsity home match against Southwestern.
