GLASGOW

Glasgow breezed through its competition on Saturday and picked up a little hardware. The Lady Scotties shot 319 to claim the All “A” state girls golf title by 19 strokes at Arlington Country Club.

“Overall we played pretty good,” Lady Scottie coach Mike Harris said. “Each girl had two or three holes that they shouldn’t have had, but we’re getting closer to where we need to be and that’s what matters.”

The Monroe County boys finished fifth as a team, while Glasgow’s Andrew Wade, playing as an individual, shot an 83 at Gibson Bay Country Club.

Four Lady Scotties finished inside the top 10. Kylie Foushee tied for third with a 77 to lead Glasgow. Kristen Wilkinson finished sixth with a 78, Blair Dennison and Laura Beth Harris each shot an 82 to tie for ninth and Shannon Bishop shot a 91.

“I think our girls are gaining confidence each week,” Harris said. “We’re playing a little smarter and we’re making better decisions out on the course.”

Green County and Villa Madonna each shot a 338 to tie for second. Heath finished fourth with a 344 and Henry County came in fifth with a 357.

Russellville’s Owen Townsend shot a 73 to claim the individual title. Christine Cash, of Heath, finished two strokes behind Townsend to take second place.

Glasgow returns to the links Wednesday in a 9-hole match at home against Allen County-Scottsville. The Lady Scotties play in the Henry Lacy Invitational on Saturday before the regional tournament gets underway Sept. 29 at Rolling Hills in Russellville.

“I’m excited for the girls to win this,” Harris said. “It gives us momentum going into the last three weeks of the season.

“We’ve got a chance to do something here, and for some of them, it’s their last chance. We’ve got as good a chance as anybody to win state.”

On the boys side at Gibson Bay, Monroe’s Matthew Anderson shot a 72 to tie for third in the individual standings to lead the Falcons to a fifth place finish.

Monroe shot 321 as a team and finished 19 strokes back of the winner, Lexington Christian. LCA finished 10 strokes ahead of Somerset to claim the title.

Travis Page shot an 81 to tie for 29th, Chad McPherson had an 83 to tie for 39th, Kaelin McPherson tied for 52nd with an 85 and Troy Tooley shot a 95.

Glasgow’s Wade, who qualified for the tournament as an individual, shot an 83 to tie for 39th.
