TOMPKINSVILLE - Monroe County extended its season-opening winning streak to three games with a 37-15 win over Larue County on Friday.
The Falcons (3-0) had three players that rushed for over 70 yards each and also got 120 yards passing from Justin Harlan.
“We had so many different weapons that played well for us,” Monroe coach John Petett said. “Our offensive line played exception and gave our backs good lanes. We had three backs that played well and we took care of the ball.
“It was a good ball game for us.”
Monroe took the initial lead in the game on a six-yard touchdown pass from Neil Wilson to Garrett Lyon on a trick play. The Falcons led 7-0.
Larue came back to knot the score at 7-7 on a 22-yard touchdown strike.
But as soon as Larue came back, Sheldon Hamilton put Monroe up for good. Hamilton returned the ensuing kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown to give the Falcons a 13-7 lead.
Monroe added to its lead on a 28-yard pass from Harlan to Wilson and got its final first half score with five seconds left on an 11-yard Harlan to Wilson connection. The Falcons led 25-7 at the half.
Larue scored a rushing touchdown and added a two point conversion in the third quarter to cut the lead to 25-15.
But the Falcons scored on an 11-yard run from Harlan later in the period and got their final score on a four-yard run from Hamilton.
Hamilton rushed for 95 yards, while Caleb Maxey had 83 yards on the ground and Tanner Kendall had 73.
Wilson threw a touchdown pass and caught a pair of scores for Monroe.
“Neil Wilson had a good game for us,” Petett said. “He threw a touchdown on a reverse pass and caught two balls for touchdowns. He played well offensively and defensively.”
The Falcons look to keep their record perfect again on Friday with a visit to Barren County (1-2). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Trojan Field
