Lady Scotties fall 8-0 in All ‘A’ tourney

The Glasgow girl’s soccer team had a disappointing ending in its brief run in the All “A” Tournament on Tuesday night.

The Lady Scotties (2-4) gave up five first half goals in an 8-0 home loss to Owensboro Catholic.

“It’s a little disappointing,” Glasgow coach Lora Garrett said. “I thought they were more ready than they were. We have to realize we’re only halfway through the season. We see some good things out there.”

But those good things were outdone by costly mistakes.

“It seems like we make the same errors every time,” Garrett said. “That’s probably the most frustrating part about it. They don’t quit, but they do get on their heels.”

The Lady Aces (1-2-3) kept the ball on their offensive end for most of the game. They outshot the Lady Scotties 12-1 in the first 20 minutes.

Owensboro Catholic’s first goal came off a shot from a corner kick at the 31:22 mark of the first half. Catholic got its second goal with 19:34 left in the opening frame on a shot into the right corner past a diving Jessie Fant in goal.

Glasgow’s lone shot in the first 20 minutes was a Micha Elmore attempt that was stopped for a save at the 21:58 mark.

The Lady Aces pushed their lead to 3-0 with 15:16 left in the first half. They got a quick pass from the upper right corner of the box into the lower left corner and scored on a header.

Catholic added a goal at the 6:11 mark and one with 4:03 left to take a 5-0 lead.

“They’re a very good team,” Garrett said. “They pass very well and they exposed a lot of weaknesses on our team. We’ve got to go back to square one and work on a few things.”

The Lady Aces added three goals in the second half.

It was the fourth straight loss for the Lady Scotties after opening the season with two straight wins.

“It’s just kind of frustrating,” Garrett said. “And the girls are frustrated too. They’re disappointed. We’ve got several big games coming up. We’ve got Bowling Green Thursday. We have Reidland Saturday at Warren Central. And then Barren the next Tuesday. We have a lot of big games coming up and the girls are going to have to toughen up.

“They’ve got to want to win the ball. Too many times the other team is beating us to the ball. They’re beating us to the ball and I can’t figure that out. When the ball was going to their middle, our players should have been out on those wing players because they knew they were feeding the wing players. But we didn’t. We just weren’t getting it done. We did not get it done tonight.”
