Barren County was at Russell County, Glasgow headed to Warren East and Monroe County played at Campbellsville. It was the second scrimmage for each team. Caverna and Metcalfe County were set for scrimmages Saturday at the PAC Jamboree, hosted by Bardstown Bethlehem. Barren County at Russell County Barren County coach Jeff Richey was pleased for the most part with his team’s performance in Friday’s scrimmage at Russell County. The Trojans and Lakers scored a pair of touchdowns each but an extra point gave the Lakers a 13-12 win. “We weren’t as sharp as I would have liked to have been, but overall I was pleased with our effort,” Richey said. Barren was on the verge of scoring on its opening drive before the Lakers forcer Kris Aquino to fumble inside the one yard line on a 40-yard run. Aquino injured his ankle on the play. The Lakers scored on their first possession and led 6-0 at the half. Tyler Hughes intercepted a Russell pass on the first drive of the second half and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown to knot the score at 6-6. The Trojans took the lead later in the second half. Tim Sneed broke off for a 30-yard run to put the ball at the Lakers’ one-yard line. Coty Lynn ran it in from there for a 12-6 lead. Russell scored on its last possession of the game and hit the extra point for the 13-12 lead. Barren got the ball back and took it to the 15-yard line before time expired. The Trojans’ biggest weakness in the game was in the kicking game. All three Trojan kickers were at Friday’s soccer match against Barren at Pulaski County. “We would’ve liked to have kicked a field goal there at the end of the game to try to win it, but we didn’t have any kickers with us,” Richey said. “We’ve got some good kickers that play soccer and they were over at Pulaski County tonight with the soccer team. You’d still like to win them, but it’s just a practice game.” The four-way quarterback battle is still under way as Richey said all of his signal callers played well on Friday.
