Scotties stage comeback to pull even Glasgow girls overcome 4-1 deficit to tie Franklin-Simpson By JON WEBB Glasgow Daily Times GLASGOW — Glasgow High School girls soccer overcame a 4-1 deficit Tuesday night, scoring three goals in quick succession in the second half to force a tie in their season-opener against Franklin Simpson.
Kelsey Greer scored two of the four Scottie goals on the night, while Hannah Holgate and Katherine Rogers each scored one. The game marked Megan Powell’s first as Scottie head coach, and after the game she was visibly excited. “I feel like I’ve just played two games,” Powell said. “I was doing a team huddle, and all I could say was, ‘I’m so proud.’” Powell said the second half saw a major shift in the Lady Scotties’ production and body language. “Starting out, it was like everyone was in slow motion,” Powell said, “but they just pulled together. They flowed, and finally put the skills I knew they had to use.” The girls enter 2009 trying to improve on a 7-12 campaign last season under former coach Lora Garrett. They will host three consecutive home games, starting with Warren Central next Monday, followed by Greenwood (Aug. 27) and Taylor County. Starting Sep. 5, the Scotties will travel across town to take part in the annual Trojan Classic, where they will face Mercy and Monroe County.
