Former Hornet Brown signs football scholly with NAIA Patriots By JOHN VERSER Glasgow Daily Times GLASGOW — It took a while, but former Metcalfe County offensive lineman Bobby Brown put his name on the dotted line.
Brown signed to play football at the University of the Cumberlands recently, joining former teammate Will Warf with the Patriots. For Brown, it was a happy ending to a big decision. “It’s a big relief to finally have it done,” Brown said. Brown said he had been looking at several schools, including Campbellsville University or walking on at Western Kentucky University. He also looked at the University of Kentucky, but said there were “too many people” at the school. Brown added that was one of the reasons that he chose Cumberlands. Another was a chance to play with Warf again. But the Metcalfe graduate said the biggest reason was the scholarship offer. “They offered me a full scholarship to go to school,” Brown said. “I just couldn’t turn that down.” “They’re getting a good kid,” Metcalfe coach Larry Harbison said. “What he lacks in size and speed, he makes up for with a good effort. He’s just a really, really good kid.” The Patriots were 8-3 a year ago and finished the season ranked 17th nationally in the NAIA. They lost to Ohio Dominican in the first round of the playoffs. Cumberlands was predicted to finish second in the Mid-South Conference East division in the preseason coaches poll, which was recently released. Brown said Cumberlands opens camp Aug. 15. The Patriots begin the 2008 season Sept. 6 at Mars Hill.
