Garmon returning to Glasgow By JON WEBB Glasgow Daily Times GLASGOW — Former Corbin High School baseball coach and Glasgow High School graduate Jeff Garmon will return to GHS next year to teach special education and will apply for an assistant baseball coach’s position.
“All I’ve done is applied (for the coach’s position),” Garmon said. Garmon said his teaching position at the high school has been finalized, although calls to GHS Principal Kelly Bell were not returned. According to the Times Tribune story “Garmon heading home,” which also confirmed Garmon’s employment at GHS, Garmon compiled a 150-86 record in seven seasons as head coach at Corbin High School, including a trip to the state final game in 1994 while Garmon was an assistant under coach Randall Sawyers. The Redhounds also won three 50th District championships, one 13th Regional and one Semi-State 7 title. The team appeared in the state quarterfinals in 2005 as well. “I’ll always remember what we accomplished in 1994 and 2005,” Garmon said in the story. “They’re a lot of memories that I can take back with me to Glasgow.” As a student athlete at GHS, Garmon played both baseball and football, and in the Times Tribune story he expressed a possible interest in working as a football assistant sometime in the future. Garmon said the main reason for his return to Glasgow is his family. “My mom, dad, nephews and nieces all live there,” he said. Glasgow is currently interviewing candidates for the head baseball coach, but Garmon said he was only applying for an assistant’s position.
