ELIZABETHTOWN — Tompkinsville’s Laura Anderson is the state’s amateur champion.
The former Monroe County and current University of Louisville standout defeated Beverly Games by a score of 1 up in match play to win the Women’s Kentucky State Amateur Championship.
Anderson began the week with a round of 75 on Monday that seeded the field. Anderson, seeded seventh in the Championship Flight, then came back to defeat Emma Robinson by a score of 3 and 1 on Tuesday. She bested Kim Hartlage by a score of 1 up on Wednesday to advance to the lower bracket semifinals.
Anderson had to win twice on Thursday to keep her streak alive. She topped Lauren Scholl with a score of 2 up Thursday morning and then defeated Ashlee Rose 1 up in the lower bracket finals on Thursday afternoon. That win allowed her to advance to the overall finals on Friday.
Glasgow’s Laura Beth Harris fell in the consolation bracket finals of the Second Flight on Friday. Harris lost by a 6 and 4 score to Dennise Mudd.
Harris fell in her first match of the week to Lauren Goodin by a score of 2 and 1. She then defeated Judy Lyle by a 1 up score on Wednesday in the consolation round. Harris defeated Annette Nimmon by a 2 and 1 score to advance to the Second Flight consolation final.
