Barren gets seconds in Classic

Barren County finished second with both its boys’ and girls’ track teams Friday in the Terry Reed Track Classic at BCHS.

With 12 teams in the girls’ field, Barren finished one point behind Allen County-Scottsville, 98-97. Glasgow was fifth with 61.5 points, while Metcalfe County was sixth with 39.

In the 13-team boys’ meet, Grayson County beat Barren 115.5 to 109 to claim the title. Glasgow was 10th with 16 points, Metcalfe was tied for 11th with five and Monroe County finished 13th with two points.

Barren County’s Nick Compton was the only area athlete to win in multiple events. He captured gold in the pole vault and the 100 meter dash.

Sydney Wininger won the girls 100 meter hurdles for the Trojanettes, while Kelsey Trowbridge won the girls long jump.

Barren’s boys also had the top two long jumpers with Taylor Austin winning the event and Zach Austin finishing second.

Other area winners included Glasgow’s Patrick Stuart in the shot put and the Lady Scotties’ 4x100 meter relay team. Glasgow also won the girls’ 4x400 relay. The Trojans won the boys’ 4x100 relay.
