GLASGOW

Glasgow’s tennis playing brothers of Eric and Michael Morosa, both ranked in the top eight in the boys’ regional singles tournament, advanced to the quarterfinals with a pair of wins each Monday.

Eric Morosa, the No. 2 ranked singles player in the region, knocked off Chen Kun of Warren East in the first round 6-0, 6-1 and G. Wheat of Allen County in the second round 6-1, 6-0. Wheat downed Barren County’s Kyle Gardner 6-3, 6-1 to advance.

Eric Morosa will play No. 5 seeded Chris Boling of Bowling Green in the quarters of the tournament.

Michael Morosa, the No. 7 ranked player, knocked off a player from Logan County 6-0, 6-0, in the first round and Charles Rice of Hart County 6-0, 6-0 in the second round. He will faced No. 1 seed Chris Ardrey of Bowling Green on Wednesday.

In other singles results, Barren County’s Colin Sparks reached the second round with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7) win over Caverna’s Kyle Richardson in the first round. Sparks fell 6-0, 6-2 to No. 4 seeded Zach Howard of Greenwood in the second round.

Caverna’s Kenneth Minor defeated Monroe County Matt Sheffield in the first round 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. He lost to Franklin-Simpson’s No. 3 seeded Brandon McCreary in the second round 6-0, 6-0.

Monroe’s Jared Rich lost in the second round to Ardrey 6-0, 6-0 after beating Warren Central’s Nick Stephens 6-3, 6-1 in the first round.

In doubles action, Barren County’s T.A. Wells and Matthew Bunnell, No. 3 ranked team, reached the quarterfinals with a pair of wins. In the first round, they knocked off Cumberland County’s Finley and Young 6-0, 6-1. In the second round, they downed Caverna’s Burke and Bowman 6-0, 6-1. Burke and Bowman had advanced by beating Smith and England of Clinton County 6-0, 6-3.

Wells and Bunnell will No. 7 ranked Clark and Sims of Bowling Green on Wednesday.

Barren County’s Cameron Felkins and Spencer Kerley upset Glasgow’s Price Bell and Pranav Santapuram, the No. 5 ranked tandem, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 in the first round. They picked up another win in the second round over Thomason and Vick of Logan County 6-1, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals.

In other matches, Metcalfe County’s Steele and Harris teamed to beat Weiss and Shadburne of Hart County in the first round 6-2, 6-4. They lost to No. 2 ranked Minton and Austin of Bowling Green 6-1, 6-0.

Weaver and Bennett of Caverna downed Reeves and Johnson of Russellville in the first round 6-3, 6-2 before losing to Greenwood’s Adams and Darnell in the second round 4-6, 6-2, 2-6.

Glasgow’s Chandler Taylor and Ethan Gibson lost in the first round to Preston and Bratcher of Warren East 4-6, 2-6.

Also, Monroe County’s Poland and Irvin won in the first round over Perkins and Carter of Allen County-Scottsville 7-6, 6-1 before losing to Franklin-Simpson’s Vejr and McDonald 6-7, 1-6.

Monroe County’s Sheffield and Sheffield lost to Franklin-Simpson’s Wade and Groce 3-6, 2-6.
