Classrooms OK’d at Caverna Elementary By GINA KINSLOW Glasgow Daily Times GLASGOW — Caverna Elementary will soon be undergoing some renovations, according to action taken recently by the Caverna Board of Education.
The elementary’s preschool classroom area is currently an open space or pod area. Plans are to close the space in order to create individual classrooms. “Doing so will provide three separate classrooms that can be used by the kindergarten,” said Wayne Hatcher, school board chairman. “The preschool would then move to the current kindergarten classrooms. Ms. (Debbie) Dickerson will then be able to move her FRYSC (Family Resource Youth Service Center) program to one of the preschool rooms and thus getting rid of the trailer she has been using.” The construction project is listed on the Caverna Independent School District’s school current facilities plan. The school district has consulted with RBI Design Group, of Lexington, about the project. This is the same architectural firm that designed Barren County’s Trojan Academy and North Jackson Elementary. RBI estimates the cost, including architect’s fees, to be $75,000 to $80,000. According to information listed on the school board’s agenda, $40,000 for the project will come from the school district’s 2007-08 construction fund and $40,000 from the district’s capital outlay fund.
