Farmer’s market opens Friday By AMBER DILLEY Glasgow Daily Times CAVE CITY — The Cave City Regional Farmer’s Market will open for the season at the Cave City Convention Center on Friday.
The market will be open Fridays and Saturdays all day at the center. “We’re going to try to be open on Fridays and Saturdays and as the season progresses, get another day, perhaps a Tuesday,” said Brian Dale, executive director of the convention center and currently interim president of the market. “We’re looking for vendors, anyone who would like to set up,” he said. The market takes Kentucky Proud vendors, which means the items have to be made in Kentucky. Dale said, last year the market was slow because of gas prices, but he thinks people are also more likely to buy locally due to the recession. “It helps the local economy too,” he said. “We have good traffic in the area, especially in the summer with tourists. If we have a convention, sometimes attendees will go visit that as well. When the sweet corn comes in, they really love that.” Dale said the market is looking for vendors and the rate is $5 for one day of set up and $25 for the entire season. “We have plenty of parking near the pavillion, which is protective in the summer or inclement weather and restrooms available,” Dale said. “It’s a prime place for a market.” Two members who were overseeing the market have split off to form their own market in Glasgow, the Barren County Regional Farmer’s Market, so the Cave City market is also looking for someone who can run the market. Dale thinks the Cave City market will do as well as it has in the past. “We’ll just have to wait until Friday to see though," he said. “We may have a party this weekend and nobody show up, but we hope people come out.”
