As director of the Glasgow Community Band, I would like to take this opportunity to express thanks for the entire community for their great support of the community band. Since organizing in 1999, the band has grown from the initial five members to as many as 40 to 50 and it varies from year to year. The band has certainly been active in supporting as many community events as humanly possible. We play every year at the cemetery for Memorial Day services, Concert on the Square, Veterans Day banquet, Veterans Day parade, annual Christmas concert at the Plaza, Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce awards banquet, plus many other activities that come up each year.
I would especially like to thank the mayor and the city council for their support, both financially and in person. We could not function without this, and I would also like to thank the recreation department for furnishing chairs for various performances, the police department for providing the color guard, traffic control and just their presence at performances. The fire department always helps to cool the streets down for the concert on the square. And the county judge-executive for helping open the courthouse for restroom use during these concerts.
Finally, the band members themselves need to have a lot of recognition for their devotion to the band rehearsals and dedication to provide the best music possible for every occasion. As you may know, we have a very diverse group, ranging from professionals to students in high school. It takes many hours of rehearsals in order to properly prepare for each and every performance, which means they make many sacrifices to attend rehearsals and individual practice.
We are so pleased that the quality of music and numbers of the band have increased over the years to provide entertainment for many facets of the community. It has certainly been our pleasure to be a part of such a fine organization, and I could not be more proud.
