Bullying is an issue found in all schools. Bullying is when one or more people attack someone they think is weaker or different than they are and can be physical or verbal. Close to 160,000 students skip school every day due to bullying. There needs to be a change. Adults and others can help stop this by simply talking to their children and reporting the abuse. Statistics show one in 10 students drop out of school because of bullying and do not return for further schooling. How can we work together to put a stop to this hurtful abuse? We can leave the situation in a positive manner. Another approach we could take is to stand up for yourself without using violence. In your mind, you can teach yourself to ignore the hurtful comments and stay positive.
STAY POSITIVE – Staying positive means to keep control of yourself and not let the negative comments get you down. Many teens who are bullied bully others who they can easily have control of. Others simply understand how bad bullying really is and try to put a stop to it. Find friends who accept you for who you are and actually care about you. People who bully others are clearly unaware of the damage they are doing to themselves and others.
TAKE A STAND – If we all work together, we can stop bullying. It will take a long time, but it can be done. You could raise the consequences or you could go through a bullying program. If you or a friend are being bullied, don’t be afraid to take a stand. Bullying is the most commonly used way to cause sadness or depression. Let’s put a stop to it.
