Hundreds of taxpayer dollars were spent this week on cleaning up an illegal dump in the county. Residents who abide by the litter laws should be furious at those who not only desecrate the countryside, but cause the spending of additional money that would be better served elsewhere. Barren County received more than $20,000 to clean up illegal dumps, but that money had already been spent or earmarked for other sites. The fact that $20,000 is not enough to cover cleaning of these dumps is astounding. Those dumping illegally are not only stealing from law-abiding taxpayers, but stealing from the beauty of our landscape. We urge members of our community to report any instances of illegal dumping. THUMBS UP – A golden age of protection We salute the Park City Volunteer Fire Department on its golden anniversary. At its inception a one-truck station, the department has grown to five trucks over the years and provides invaluable service to Park City and the surrounding area. The men and women of the PCVFD also provide timely and lifesaving actions to the many accidents on Interstate 65. Residents of Park City and surrounding areas should turn out for a celebration on Sept. 23 tentatively scheduled for Park City Elementary School to congratulate members of the department.
