Her Story impressive group

We had another outstanding group of women from which to choose in the second year of the Her Story program.

It’s amazing the number of outstanding women who have contributed to our community over the years. There are younger and more experienced members this year.

Golda Walbert, who has donated more than 60 years to professional and civic organizations, couldn’t have her story effectively told in the short space allotted. Anyone really wanting to capture the whole of her accomplishments would have to write a novel. To truly tell her story, the writer would have to include the mountain of anecdotal stories.

I wrote the story for the Her Story magazine and was unable to really include the great stuff because the basics had to be covered. Her vita alone was three pages of outstanding life accomplishments.

The reporters and staff of the Daily Times did an outstanding job of putting the magazine together. Gina Kinslow, Brad Dickerson, Amber Dilley, Jennifer Moonsong, Jerianne Strange and myself wrote the stories. Lisa Simpson Strange helped with the concept and the nominee selection process, as did publisher Pete Mio.

Meanwhile, Will Spillman shot all of the portraits but for judge-executive Davie Greer’s.

The staff in the advertising department did a fantastic job of finding sponsors for the publication and the program that will be July 15 at 5:30 p.m. at First Christian Church, 1100 North Race St., Glasgow.

Along with Walbert, this year’s other honorees are Julie Adkins, Charlotte Beals, Martha Bragg, Brenda Chaney, Beth Faught, Davie Greer, Sheri Lee, Karisa Peterson, Ann Phelps and Elaine Richardson.

We congratulate them on their past accomplishments that led to their selection for the Her Story honor, and we anticipate many more years of contributions to our community from these women.

We also look forward to next year’s group of winners so that we can tell even more impressive stories about the women of our community.
