MUNFORDVILLE — Lonnie Dean Sheets, 74, passed away Wednesday morning, June 11, 2014, at his home in Munfordville.
Born on New Years Day, Lonnie Dean Sheets was the first baby born in Harlan County, Ky. in 1940. He grew up in the mountains of West Virginia. At age 17, he enlisted in the Army where he spent six years as a tank instructor, a weapons instructor and performing a variety of other tasks.
In 1975, Lonnie accepted the Lord’s calling into the ministry and enrolled in Clear Creek Baptist College. He would spend the next 39 years in the ministry, serving God and the communities around his churches. He loved God and found purpose in life through serving Him and serving people.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; one son, Mark Sheets and wife Tammy, of Brentwood, Tenn; one daughter Becky Lile, of Franklin, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Sarah Beth and Allie Sheets, Sam and Taylor Lile; five brothers, Raymond Sheets of Miami, Fla., Charles and Ronnie Sheets, of W. Virginia, Harold Sheets of Deleware and Joe Sheets, of Virginia; two sisters, Delores Young of W. Virginia and Mary Holland of Virginia.
He was preceded in death by one brother Tommy and three sisters, June Mayberry, Freda Taylor and Ann Crigger.
Funeral services for Bro. Lonnie Dean Sheets will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Mount Olivet Baptist Church with Bro. Kelvin Edwards and Bro. Gordon McDowell officiating. Burial will be in Munfordville Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1 until 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Sego Funeral Home.
