GLASGOW — James Clifton Boyd

BOWLING GREEN – James Clifton Boyd, 74, of Bowling Green, died Sunday, March 3, 2013.

A native of Warren County,  he was the son of the late Paul Clifton Boyd and Mary Frances Wilson Sledge.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Isbell, and son, Greg Perkins.

James is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sarah McMillin Boyd; son, Dale Boyd of Elfrida, Ariz.; two sisters, Martha Miller (David), of Crestwood, and Paula Russell (Steve), of Glasgow; two brothers, Ronnie Boyd (Paula Sue), of Bowling Green, and Donnie Boyd (Debbie), of Glasgow; granddaughter, Jamie Perkins Dedman (Bart), of Franklin; three grandchildren, Jade, Rowan, and Cash Dedman, of Franklin; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

James was a U.S. Marine and a member of the American Legion Post 23. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 7, 2013, at 11 a.m., at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel with burial to follow in Bowling Green Gardens. Visitation will begin Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel.

 

Fred Douglas

PARK CITY – Fred Douglas, 67, of Park City, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at his residence.

He was a splicer and line worker for Verizon and a U.S. Army veteran.

The Phoenix, Ariz., native was born to the late Frederick Tickenoff and the late Helen Stenwall.

He is survived by two sons, Mike and Tim Douglas, both of Portland, Ore.; one stepson, Cory Warne, of Portland, Ore.; and one stepdaughter, Kelly L. Lutz (Jason), of Central Point, Ore.

Visitation will be 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Patton Funeral Home, Park City Chapel. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the funeral home.

 

Porter Elvin Gooden Jr.

BON AYR – Porter Elvin Gooden Jr., 85, of Bon Ayr, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at his residence.

A native of Barren County, he was an appliance repairman, a veteran of World War II and a member of Big Meadow Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Porter Elvin Gooden Sr. and Myrtie Freeman Gooden; his stepmother, Maude Gooden; one son, Danny Gooden; one brother, Paul Gooden; one brother-in-law, Reverend Lynn Travis Edwards.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Saltsman Gooden; three grandchildren, Danny D. Gooden and his fiancée Sunshine Fannin, Katrina Hazelwood, and Kendra Scott; 10 great-grandchildren, Lindsay Shipley, Kyle Gooden, Zackary Scott, Brooklyn Ramsey, Mason Gooden, Kalista Hazelwood, Destiny Blevins, Jacob Blevins, Hailey Fannin, and Abbi Gooden; two great-great-grandchildren, Lillian Grace Shipley and Aubrey Sue Gooden; four brothers, Preston Gooden and wife Wilma, of Hiseville, Rondell Gooden and wife Donna, of Brooks, Ky., Denny Gooden and wife Margaret and Charles Gooden and wife Nellie, all of Glasgow; three sisters, Zula Tucker and husband Don, of Louisville, Sandy Cowan and husband Ronnie, of Glasgow, and Wanda Edwards, of Cave City; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Big Meadow Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Eaton officiating. Burial with military honors provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV will be in Big Meadow Cemetery. Visitation begins at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home and will continue Thursday until time for services.

 

Lola Irene Crowe Gott

BOWLING GREEN – Lola Irene Crowe Gott, 98, of Bowling Green, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Colonial Manor Care & Rehab.

She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Parthenia Mullins Crowe, and wife of the late Charles Felix Gott.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Berea Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.



Shelby R. Lanham

GLASGOW – Shelby R. Lanham, 80, of Glasgow, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

He was the son of the late John William and Mary Margaret West Lanham.

He is survived by one brother, James Lanham; two sisters, Donna Gail Lanham and her husband Doug and Stacie Lanham.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Sybil C. Holman Sneed

GLASGOW – Sybil C. Holman Sneed, 80, of Glasgow, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at her residence.

Arrangements are incomplete, but under the direction of Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.



Debra Ann ‘Debbie’ Thomas

GLASGOW – Debra Ann “Debbie” Thomas, 56, of Glasgow, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at her home.

Born in Louisville, she was the daughter of the late Lynn and Virginia Lyons Woodcock. She was a former employee of Mallory and attended Rolling Hills United Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Trevor Thomas and wife Dana, of Glasgow; one daughter, Tracie York and husband Roger, of Summer Shade; four grandchildren, Jonathon York, Dustin Thomas, Kristen Thomas and Kacie York; one sister, Karan Rodgers, of New Mexico; her very good friend, Mitchell Borders; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Dorothy Opal Turner

TOMPKINSVILLE – Dorothy Opal Turner, 88, of Tompkinsville, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at Monroe County Medical Center.

Dorothy was born in Monroe County on March 1, 1925, a daughter of the late Melissa (Murley) and Lewis Turner.

Funeral services will be at Yokley Trible Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Jack Paul Scott officiating.

Visitation begins on Wednesday after 4 p.m. and Thursday from 6 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services and burial will be at 1 p.m. at Cave City Cemetery.

SCOTTSVILLE – Lida J. Costello, 86, of Scottsville, died at 8:50 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Goad Funeral Home and burial in Hickory Hill Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.



TOMPKINSVILLE – Zelma Mae Hale, 87, of Tompkinsville, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Monroe County Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at Yokley Trible Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be in Neal Cemetery.



LOUISVILLE – Billy Dee Meador, died Monday, March, 4, 2013, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Strode Funeral Home, Scottsville Chapel, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at Mount Union United Methodist Church in Scottsville. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the church with burial at Mount Union United Methodist Church Cemetery.



BOWLING GREEN – Mary Elizabeth Sacrey, 92, of Bowling Green, died Saturday, March 2, 2013. Visitation will be from 11 to 12 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is noon Wednesday at the church with burial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Cemetery. J.C. Kirby & Son, Lovers Lane Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.



EDMONTON – Magdalene “Mag Turner” Piercy VanDuyn, 72, of Edmonton, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Mann Cemetery.
