GLASGOW — Annie Mary Bowman

TOMPKINSVILLE – Annie Mary Bowman, 96, of Tompkinsville, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

She was the wife of the late Benton Earl Bowman, and daughter of the late Gilford Hestand and Lou Netherton Hestand.

Visitation is in progress at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Skaggs Creek Cemetery in Monroe County.



Bobbie Dixine Coomer

EDMONTON — Bobbie Dixine Coomer, 77, of Edmonton, formerly of Bridgeview, Ill., lost her battle with cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Bobbie was born in Edmonton on Feb. 10, 1936, to the late Birch and Lela Shive Hurt.

In addition to her parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles 'Charlie' Coomer.

There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Revenna Separate Baptist Church, 1400 Reece-Hurt Road, Edmonton.



Walter L. Emmitt

TAYLORSVILLE, Ind. – Walter L. Emmitt, 80, of Taylorsville, Ind., died at 12:40 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, and heaven gained another angel.  Walter passed at his home with his family and dear friends at his side.

He retired from Milestone as a heavy equipment operator where he had worked for several years. He was a member of Local Union 181 and enjoyed Bluegrass and Gospel music. He was saved and baptized at Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Glasgow. He served in the U.S. Army from July 6, 1955 to May 2, 1957, based in Fort Knox and Germany. He was born in Glasgow, Aug. 16, 1933, the son of David Thomas and Ruby Lee Bunch Emmitt. He married his life-love, Mary Lois Lewis on Dec. 24, 1955. After being discharged from the Army he and Mary relocated to Indiana.

Survivor include his wife of nearly 58 years, Mary Lois Emmitt; children, Ricky (Carla) Emmitt, of Hope; Russell (Angie) Emmitt, of Columbus; Randy (Lee Ann) Emmitt, of Seymour and Renee (Fabian) Mathis, of Columbus; sisters, Linda Morris and Patricia Chase, both of Kentucky; grandchildren, Jeremy (Angie) Emmitt, Chad (Stephanie) Emmitt, Logan Emmitt, Thomas Emmitt, Samantha Emmitt and Chelsea Mathis and great-grandchildren, Jayce, Bryn and Cameryn Emmitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Roger and David Emmitt; a sister, Helen Frazier and an infant son, Wilbur Lee Emmitt.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Jimmie McGaha officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. to time of service. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery with military honors conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Brenda Lois Jones

GLASGOW – Brenda Lois Jones, 60, Glasgow, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at T. J. Samson Community Hospital.

A native of Jefferson County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Ola Lindsey Phillips. She was a psychiatric assistant and a member of Johnson Chapel CME Church in Glasgow.

Survivors include her husband of 23 years, William Jones; one son, Eric Philpott, of Louisville; one granddaughter, Latasha Philpott, of Center; and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with cremation to follow. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.



J. B. Moore

OAKLAND –  J. B. Moore, 76, of Oakland, died Wed. Sept. 18, 2013, at his residence.

The Ohio County native was a son of the late Ezra and Lela Cox Moore and is preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Denton, and a brother, Rayburn Moore. He was a heavy equipment operator, a member of IUOE Local 181 and a US Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Janis Moore; two sons, Jay Moore (Sonja) and Jerry Moore (Jennifer); five grandchildren, Dr. Amanda Walden (Dr. Phillip), Andrea Roberts (Bruce), Allison Moore, Austin Moore and Rylan Moore; three great-grandchildren, Sophia Walden, Kipton Walden and Stella Walden; two sisters, Beth Conway (A.V.) and Terry Warren (Billy); two brothers, Joe Moore (Pat) and Leon Moore (Betty); several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Grove Chapel with burial in Smiths Grove Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.

Holine Cherry, 86, of Horse Cave, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home with burial in Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery.



Virginia Louise Moss, 73, of Glasgow, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.



Shirley Mae Welch Payne, 76, of Tompkinsville, passed away Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Monroe County Medical Center. Funeral services will be at Yokley Trible Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, with Bradley Shaw officiating.
