GLASGOW — Thelma Doris England

GLASGOW – Thelma Doris England, 78, of Glasgow, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Glenview Health Care in Glasgow.  

She was the daughter of the late Andrew Lee and Kizzie Gibson Moss. She also was a homemaker and member of Society Hill Baptist Church.   

She is survived by her husband, Willis England, of Glasgow; three daughters, Karen and husband Tommy Garmon, of Edmonton, Rita Hughes and friend Mike Bragg, of Glasgow, and Lisa and husband James Blankenship, of Edmonton; eight grandchildren, Lori Broaddus, Josh Smith, Jonathan and wife Stacey Smith, James Reece, Matthew Dillon, Calli Dillon, Andrew Nichols and Colleen Hughes; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive.  

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Coffey, and son-in-law, Barry Hughes.

Funeral services were 1 p.m. Monday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton. Burial was in Society Hill Cemetery. Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton was in charge of the arrangements.

C. Loretta Furlong

PARK CITY – C. Loretta Furlong, 82, of Park City, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Barren County Health Care Facility.

Born in Barren County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Roy Lee Britt and Sammie Lee Gray Britt and wife of the late Frank W. Furlong Jr. Mrs. Furlong was a member of Old Zion United Methodist Church where she was active in the Ladies Circle; she was also a member of T.J. Samson Hospital Samson-ites.

Survivors include a son, Doug Furlong and wife Pauletta, of Park City; a son-in-law, Howard Bowman Jr., of Park City; four grandchildren, Brad Furlong and wife Kellie, Kim Gibson and husband Keith, Stephanie Payne and husband Kevin and Jason Bowman and wife Sarah; five great-grandchildren, Austin Furlong, Cameron Furlong, Kaleigh Gibson, Victor Payne and Abagail Bowman; a sister, Mary Edith Perkins, of Glasgow; and two caregivers, Jerimie Peden, of Park City, and Janet Dobson, of Glasgow.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Bowman.

Funeral services were 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Old Zion Cemetery.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contribution to the ALS Association Kentucky Chapter, 2815 Amsterdam Road, Villa Hills, KY 41017.

LaRecea B. Tabor Gibbs

SCOTTSVILLE – LaRecea B. Tabor Gibbs, 69, of Scottsville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green.

She was born May 31, 1944, in Allen County, to the late Aubrey B. Tabor and Lois Centers Tabor. She was a member of Mount Union Methodist Church, and a retired teacher from the Allen County School System.

She is survived by two daughters, Angela Martin and husband Craig, of Springfield, Tenn. and Hope Cummiskey and husband Patrick, of Brentwood, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Calister Turner, Alex Turner, Jackson Cummiskey, William Turner, Ansley Cummiskey of Brentwood, Tenn, and Connor Martin, of Springfield, Tenn.; one brother, L.C. Tabor, of Scottsville also survives as well as two sisters-in-law, Juanita Tabor and Nadine Tabor. Several nieces and nephews also survives.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 11a.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Scottsville with burial following in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Scottsville.

Visitation will begin Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Suggested memorial donations are Camp Courageous in Scottsville, Ky. and Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green.


James B. ‘Jimmy’ Karnes

CAVE CITY – James B. “Jimmy” Karnes, 80, of Cave City, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at the home of his son.

The Hart County native was preceded in death by his parents, W.V. and Ida Lee James Karnes.

Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec.11,  with burial to follow in Cosby Cemetery.

Visitation at Winn Funeral Home will be on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and after 8 a.m. Wednesday until service time.

Lucille Evelyn Plumlee Kidd

GLASGOW – Lucille Evelyn Plumlee Kidd, 92, of Browning School Road, passed away Sunday afternoon, with her family by her side and in the caring hands of the staff at Barren County Heath Care in Glasgow.

Lucille was born on March 27, 1921, to the late Henry Lester Plumlee and Lelia Gladys Hayes Plumlee.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Hazel Plumlee, a son-in-law, Michael Steenbergen and a brother-in-law, Don Roberts.

Lucille is survived by her husband of 67 years, Malra H. Kidd; her six children, Evelyn Collins Krukas (Joe) of Minnetrista, Minn.; Philip Kidd (Melinda), of Indianapolis, Ind.; and Frances Steenbergen (Richard Witten), Kenneth Kidd (Sharon), Walter Kidd (Sybil), Gerald Kidd (Donnie), all of Glasgow. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren: Tara Collins Anderson (Jim Topp), Jamie Collins Pehl (Clint) and Tiffany Kruckas Kokal (Chris); Jason Kidd (Christy), Morgan and Caitlyn Kidd; Kelley Steenbergen Ross; Benjamin Kidd (Tiffany); Leslie Kidd, Lindsey Kidd Stephens (Troy) and Nicholas Kidd; Wendy Kidd Browning (Jerrod) and Spencer Kidd (Lindsey); three step-grandchildren, Steve Wininger (Amye), Leslie Wininger Manion (Keith) and Andy Wininger (Johna); and 18 great-grandkids, Morgan, Mallorie and Mason Brakemeier; Garrett and Ian Kidd; Campbell and Elaine Ross; Calleigh and Lucas Kidd; Maddee, Jax, Marlee, and Knox Stephens; Carson, Carter and Casen Browning; Kellan and Kamden Kidd and seven step-great-grandchildren, Luke, Matthew, Will and Claire Wininger; Kelsey and Ian Manion; and Case Wininger. A sister, Fannie Roberts and sister-in-law, Edna Plumlee, of Glasgow also survive. A special thanks to her care givers: Barbara Chambers, Leanne and Eric Ballard and Rachel Wheeler.

Lucille was a devoted companion, loving mother, homemaker, gardener and a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a 1940 graduate of Glasgow High School and will be missed by her family, friends and loved ones.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11,  at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Tabatha Rae Wheat Tooley

TOMPKINSVILLE – Tabatha Rae Wheat Tooley, 42, of Tompkinsville, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, Victor Tooley, of Tompkinsville. She was the daughter of Sandra Sue Dubree Tooley, of Tompkinsville and the late Bobby “Buck” Wheat.

Funeral service was Monday, Dec. 9, at 1:30 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.

Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Monroe County.


CUB RUN – Rev. Sylvester Lee Burba, 83, of Cub Run, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2013. Funeral service will be at Brooks Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Union Light Cemetery, Mammoth Cave.


GLASGOW — Charles and Frances Galloway died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013. They were both 63. Joint funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church Family Life Center with burial in Hays Cemetery.

PARK CITY — Patricia A. Hazelip, 79, of Park City, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013. A memorial service will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Park City United Methodist Church.
