GLASGOW — Alice Clarice Ford

GAMALIEL – Alice Clarice Ford, 82, of Gamaliel, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at The Medical Center of Bowling Green.

Clarice was born in Monroe County on May 14, 1931, a daughter of the late Nellie Venus (Strode) and Benjamin Colson Bowman I. She was married to Ralph Odell Ford, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Gamaliel Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She worked as an inspector at various garment factories throughout her life.

Clarice is survived by a son, Jerry and his wife Rita Ford, of Gamaliel; two grandchildren; Joseph Steven and his wife Jolene Ford, and Joni Rochelle and her husband Allen Graves; five great-grandchildren; Allison Graves, Aubrey Graves, Avery Graves, Jonah Ford and Josie Ford.

Clarice was also preceded in death by three sisters, Corinne Reagan, Pauline Cittadino and Vivan Lamotte; and one brother, Benjamin Bowman.

Funeral services will be at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, with Brother Richard Easterling officiating. Visitation is in progress and will continue Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial is in Gamaliel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Southern Ky. Builders for Christ.

Katherine Butler Lawrence

SMITHS GROVE – Katherine Butler Lawrence, 77, of Smiths Grove, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green.

She was born in Finney, the daughter of the late Leonard B. and Melissia G. DeVasher Butler, and the wife of the late William “Bill” Lawrence. Mrs. Lawrence was a homemaker and member of Hanging Fork Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Van Lawrence and wife Tina, Ricky Lawrence, and Todd Lawrence and wife Judy, all of Smiths Grove; one daughter, Tammie Mahaney and husband Terry, of Smiths Grove; seven grandchildren, Lauren Shirley, Cory Mahaney, Hunter Lawrence, Tyler Lawrence, Brittany Chandler, Denley and Nick Finley; seven great-grandchildren, Jillian Shirley, Skylar and Logan Lamastus, Jameson, Breydn, Levi and Kholey Finley; one sister, Marjorie Atkinson, of Bowling Green; one niece, Lisa Lancaster and husband Jeff; one great-niece, Bailee Lancaster.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Butler.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25,  at Hanging Fork Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Warren County. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. Visitation on Wednesday will be from 11 a.m. until time for services at Hanging Fork Baptist Church.

Alternate expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of a memorial contributions to the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky, 5872 Scottsville Road, Bowling Green, KY 42104-7853.


Joseph Rodney ‘Joe’ Owens Sr.

SCOTTSVILLE – Joseph Rodney “Joe” Owens Sr., 77, of Scottsville, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at his residence.

The Logansport, Ind., native was a retired employee of Allen County Water District, a 15-year U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam and a member of American Vets Post 110 in Franklin, and Kentucky Patriot Guard. He was a son of the late Burford Raymond Owens and Bessie Goble Houchens Owens.

He is survived by one son, Rodney Owens and wife Nancy, Scottsville; three daughters, Rhonda Scott and husband Terry, Louisville, Lisa Smith, Tompkinsville, Janette Temple and husband Roy, Adolphus; the children’s mother, Audra Richards, Scottsville; two sisters, Mary West and husband Jack, Sikeston, Mo., and Doris Berry, Fort Myers, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Billy Earl Smith, and a brother-in-law, Arlie Berry.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday at Goad Funeral Home. Brother Trey Harper officiated. Burial was in Allen County Memorial Gardens. Military honors were provided by Glasgow DAV Chapter 20. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Donations may be made at Goad Funeral Home.

Lizzie Irene Poynter

KNOB LICK – Lizzie Irene Poynter, 87, of Knob Lick, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at NHC Health Care in Glasgow.

She was the daughter of the late Corbett and Estell Edwards Byrd.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Pierce, of Knob Lick and Martha Poynter, of Edmonton; two step-daughters, Carolyn Judd, of Cave City and Bonnie Mills, of Glasgow; brother, Sam and wife Helen Byrd, of Knob Lick, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Poynter; three brothers, Cecil, Luther and William Byrd; two sisters, Pauline Bailey and Florence Oswalt.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Buck Hill Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.

Mr. Danny Stilts Sr.

BURKESVILLE – Mr. Danny Stilts Sr., “Boogie,” 66, of Burkesville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville.

He is survived by his sons, Danny Stilts Jr. and Christopher Daniel Stilts, both of Burkesville; his sisters, Myra and Carl Norris, Charlotte Gilbert, both of Burkesville, Karen and Ricky Coomer, of Marrowbone; and his brother, Anthony Ray Stilts, of Smiths Grove.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 25,  in the memory chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home with burial in Burkesville Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, until service time on Wednesday. Professional service provided by Norris-New Funeral Home of Burkesville.

Margaret Tipton Vincent

SMITHS GROVE – Margaret Tipton Vincent, 67, of Smiths Grove, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tenn.

She was the daughter of the late Ted R. and Helen Rogers Tipton, and wife of the late Thomas Leon Vincent.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Grove Chapel. Burial will be in Smiths Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.


WILMINGTON, Ohio – Donald T. Berry, 80, of Wilmington, Ohio, formerly of Austin, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Union Church Cemetery.
