GLASGOW — Seva Lee Burford

GLASGOW – Seva Lee Burford, 88, Glasgow, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at NHC of Glasgow.

A native of Barren County, she was a daughter of the late O.B. Burford and Pearlie Quinn Burford, of Glasgow. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Hardin T. Burford of Fort Wayne, Ind., and her sister, Dr. Anna Marie Burford, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., who also was Seva’s caregiver during the time she lived in Murfreesboro.

Seva was a retired beautician who owned and operated Vogue Beauty Shop on North Green Street for more than 30 years. Throughout her career, she was recognized with numerous awards for her creative hairstyles. Some of her other interests included her needlework, ceramics and art, which she loved to share. Her greatest joys came from her family, friends and her church. She was a member of Columbia Avenue Church of Christ.

She is survived by her brother, Alwin B. Burford and wife Joyce, of Bowling Green; two nephews, Danny Lee Burford and wife Sherrie, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Kevin B. Burford and wife Kim, of Lexington; two nieces, Kim Clayton and husband Brent, of Bowling Green, and Krista Staples and husband Bryan, of White House, Tenn.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Benevolence Fund, c/o Columbia Avenue Church of Christ, P.O. Box 1793, Glasgow, KY 42142-1793.

Margaret Louise Cawthorn

GLASGOW – Margaret Louise Cawthorn, 74, of Glasgow, died Monday Dec. 9, 2013, at The Medical Center in Scottsville.

She was the daughter of the late Sherman and Vinnie Parrigan Holland.

She is survived by three sons, James and wife Alma Cawthorn, of Alabama, Allen Cawthorn, of Edmonton, and Michael and wife Colleen Cawthorn, of Glasgow; two daughters, Sharon and husband William Whittom and Brenda and husband Romey Brooks, all of Glasgow; nine grandchildren, Brandon Cawthorn, Tabitha Froedge, Joseph Cawthorn, Samantha Hunter, Melissa Compton, Christopher Cawthorn, Julie Derry, Autumn Cawthorn and Zoey Cawthorn; 17 great-grandchildren also survive.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Brady Cawthorn, and one grandchild, April Ootens.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in New Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Louise Curtis

BURKESVILLE – Louise Curtis, 70, of Burkesville, passed away on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Cumberland County Hospital.

Louise was born on June 4, 1943, in Ravenna, Ohio, to the late James Charlie Myers and Mary Melton Myers. She was a member of First Christian Church, and a former employee of Curtis & McComas, WKYR Radio, and the Cumberland County Water Department.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Joey Curtis, and three brothers, Paul Myers, Curtis Myers and Haskel Myers.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Howard Curtis, of Burkesville; one son, Bill Curtis and his wife Darla Watson Curtis, of Burkesville; two brothers, Troy Myers, of Donaldson, Tenn., and Gale Myers of Winchester, Ind.; five grandchildren, Mary Jo Brown and Anthony Kyle Curtis, both of Tompkinsville, Neeley Jo Curtis and Robert Frazier Curtis, both of Burkesville, and Andie Thacker, of Taylorsville, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be Thursday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street, Burkesville, with Brother Scott Ferguson officiating.

Family requests visitation after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home in Burkesville.


Jimmy Law

SCOTTSVILLE – Jimmy Law, 56, of Scottsville, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Hospice House in Bowling Green.

The Scottsville native was a son of the late James Elbert Law and Ann Graves Law.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Gail Law, of Scottsville.

Funeral services will be noon Wednesday at Goad Funeral Home with Brother Danny Patrick and Brother Don Dorris officiating and burial in Haysville Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at Goad Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Southern Kentucky or the charity of your choice. Donations may be made at the funeral home.

Aline Stephens

EDMONTON – Aline Stephens, 86, of Edmonton, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Oren and Bertha Hayes Word.

She is survived by four sons, Nick and wife Pansy Stephens, of Cave City, Ricky and wife Judy Stephens, of Edmonton, Freddie and fiancee’ Ginger Syra, of Austin, and Teddy and wife Jo Carol Stephens, of Glasgow; two daughters, Nancy and husband Jeff Church, of Hardyville, and Amy and husband Joe Hall, of Glasgow; one brother, Neal Word, of Edmonton; two sisters, Marine Caffee, of Columbus, Ind., and Lois McFarland, of Glasgow; 11 grandchildren, Niki Stephens, Andrea and husband Courtney Douglas, Lindsey and husband Mark Bonta, Josh and wife Sarah Church, Julie Church, Matthew Stephens, Ryan Stephens, Bryan Stephens, Casey and husband Brian Moore, Kelsey and Reagan Kingrey; five great-grandchildren, Alec Harrison, Ty and Hayden Bonta, Gavian and Jacob Moore; caregivers Buffy Jessie and Donna Purvis, also survive.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Stephens; two brothers, Charles and Leron Word; and two sisters, Maxine Estes and Betty Gibson.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Missionary Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.


SCOTTSVILLE – LaRecea B. Tabor Gibbs, 69, of Scottsville, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11a.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Scottsville with burial following in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Scottsville.

CAVE CITY – James B. “Jimmy” Karnes, 80, of Cave City, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013. Funeral services will be in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with burial to follow in Cosby Cemetery.

GLASGOW – Lucille Evelyn Plumlee Kidd, 92, of Browning School Road, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday  at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
