TOMPKINSVILLE — Cornell Rhoton, 93, of Tompkinsville, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014, at his home. Cornell was born in Monroe County, on Jan. 2, 1921, a son of the late Sylvia (Crawford) and Cay Rhoton.
On Sept. 11, 1945, at the home of Toll Phemister in the Mount Gilead Community of Tompkinsville, he married Alice Marie (Bean) Rhoton, who preceded him in death on March 13, 2013. They had been married for 67 years.
Cornell spent his life working in agriculture. He was retired from being a soil conservation technician for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He also was a farmer. He served as a Sgt. in the Army Air Force. He was a member of Corinth Church of Christ
Cornell is survived by a daughter, Judy and husband Larry Tim Ross, of Tompkinsville; two sons, Terry Rhoton, of Alvaton, Jeffrey, and wife Windy Rhoton, of Hendersonville, Tenn.
Cornell is also survived by six grandchildren; Tim Ross, Mark Ross, Jon Ross, April Pritchett, Eric Rhoton, and Simeon Rhoton. 14 great-grandchildren also survive.
He is also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Janie Hale Rhoton.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Yokley Trible Funeral Home, with Stewart Tarter officiating. Visitation is Tuesday after 5 p.m. and Wednesday 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Monroe County Memorial Lawn.
