Marion Houston ‘MH’ Proffitt
OAKLAND — Marion Houston “MH” Proffitt, 71, expired Monday, May 20, 2013, at his home in Oakland.
He was the retired owner-operator of the former MH Proffitt Funeral Home in Bardstown, a member of The Funeral Directors of Kentucky Association, an airplane, automobile and motorcycle enthusiast, a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and had a world record with the National Aeronautics Association. He worshiped with the Lehman Avenue Church of Christ and had a concerted interest in Christian Missionary work especially in Bulgaria.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Erby H. and Lydia Bishop Proffitt.
Survivors are his wife of 50 years, the former Delores Rucker; one daughter, Mrs. Scott (Lisa) Grimes, of Bowling Green; one son, Ty Houston Proffitt, of Manchester, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Tara and Ty Buttrey, Knoxville, Tenn., and Hayden Houston and Elizabeth Proffitt, of Manchester, Tenn.
He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Forrest (Martha) Morris, of Bloomfield; and two aunts, Elizabeth Proffitt, of Cave City, and Elizabeth Bishop, of Nazareth.
Cone Funeral Home in Bowling Green is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, with the funeral to follow in the evening at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Bardstown Cemetery on Thursday, May 23, under the direction of Barlow Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Big Reedy Christian Camp, Bowling Green.
David Dewayne Turner
TOMPKINSVILLE — David Dewayne Turner, 48, of Tompkinsville, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at Monroe County Medical Center.
David was born in Tompkinsville on June 14, 1964, a son of Homer Turner and the late Doris Lee Birge.
In July of 1996, he married Karen (Pickerell) Turner, who survives him.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Yokley Trible Funeral Home with Tim White officiating. Burial will be in Neal Cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
