Robert Samuel “Bobby” Travis, 76, of Glasgow, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at his home.
Born in Glasgow, he was a son of the late Horace and Mae Lentz Travis. He was a graduate of Glasgow High School and Centre College and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve with the rank of major.
Along with his brother Freddie, he owned and operated Ideal Hardware-Glasgow Trading Center and was very active in the community, serving as chairman of the Housing Authority of Glasgow, Glasgow-Barren County Veterans Wall of Honor and Fort Williams Restoration Committee. He also served as executive director for the local American Red Cross Chapter. He was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, U.S. Marine Corps League, Barren County Veterans Association, Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lykens Travis; his daughter, Casey Travis of Glasgow; his stepson Eric Johnson (Kimberly) of Glasgow; three grandchildren, Sgt. William Travis Jones, Katherine Jones and Evan Johnson; a brother, Freddie Travis (Sue) of Glasgow; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery, with military honors provided by D.A.V. Chapter 20 of Glasgow. Visitation begins at 5 p.m. Monday.
Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the T. J. Samson Hospice Program or Community Medical Care.
