GLASGOW — Truman ‘Shag’ Edward Gearlds

TOMPKINSVILLE — Truman “Shag” Edward Gearlds, 76, of Tompkinsville, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at Monroe Health and Rehabilitation.

Truman was born in Tompkinsville on June 20, 1936, a son of the late Ethel (White) and Esco Gearlds.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Jones Gearlds.

Funeral services at will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Yokley Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with Tim White officiating. Burial will be in Center Point Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 6 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mary Kirzeder

BOWLING GREEN — Mary Kirzeder, died Saturday May 18, 2013, at Greenwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was the daughter of Joseph and Helen A. Hoefler Kirzeder.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Scottsville. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home.

Idelle Poynter

GLASGOW — Idelle Thomas Poynter, 84, of Glasgow, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at her home.

She was born in Barren County, the daughter of the late Jim and Nettie Matthews Thomas.

Mrs. Poynter was a homemaker and farm wife and a former employee of L.C. Ellis Drug Store and Handmacher in Glasgow. She was a member of the Mount Tabor Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Ricky Poynter and wife Jeannie, of Glasgow; a daughter-in-law, Bernice Poynter, of Glasgow; a sister-in-law, Dorene Thomas Hard, of Scottsville; eight grandchildren, Tasha Caffee, Todd and Jeannie Poynter, Brenda and Terry Wilson, Tammy and Greg Groce and Patty Link; 10 great-grandchildren, Nola Caffee, Dylan Poynter, Justin and Timothy Caffee, Richard Groce, Cassie and Nathan Meadows, Brittany, Alex and Gabbie Link; five great-great grandchildren, Mason Meadows, Ryan and Landon Link, and Trey and Jerri Prewitt; one nephew and several nieces.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Poynter; a son, Eddie Poynter; a great-granddaughter, Asia Caffee; two brothers, William and James Thomas; and her sister, Mildred Smith.  

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation begins at 5 p.m. Monday. The family has requested there be no roses in flower arrangements sent to the funeral home.

James Wade

SUMMER SHADE — James Wesley Wade, 88, of Summer Shade, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, at his home.

He was a well-known farmer, a  life-long  resident of Summer Shade and was a member of  Summer Shade Baptist Church.

He was the son of the late Gilliam and Pauline Atkinson Wade.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Emma Jean Hays Wade; two sons, Mike (Elaine)Wade, Mark (Vickie) Wade, all of Glasgow; one daughter, Jill (Joe) Wade Smith, of Columbia; six grandchildren, J.R. ( Megan ) Wade, of Bowling Green, Allen Wade, of  Owensboro, Wesley Wade, of Nashville, Tenn., Whitney Wade, of Athens, Ga., Taylor Smith, of Columbia, Andrew Wade, of Glasgow;  two great-grandsons, James Eli Wade and John Miller Wade, of Bowling Green; one brother, Harold Wade of Harriman, Tenn.;  and two nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Rebecca and Dorothy Wade.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Summer Shade Baptist Church with Brother Chad White officiating. Burial will follow in Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at the church.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made to Summer Shade Baptist Church.

McMurtrey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Edwin Williams

CENTER — Edwin Lovell Williams, 83, of Center, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at his home.

He was the son of the late Herman and Ruby Kinnaird Williams.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sulphur Well Methodist Church with burial in Williams Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.


GLASGOW – Marjorie Flowers Cooksey, 87, of Glasgow, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Glenview Health Care Center. Memorial graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
