Gerlena Catherine ‘Gerri’ Comer
SARASOTA, Fla. — Gerlena Catherine “Gerri” Comer, 85, formerly of Gamaliel, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at Tide Well Hospice & Pallative Care, Bradenton, Fla.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas and wife of the late O.E. Comer Jr.
Graveside services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Gamaliel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday at Strode Funeral Home, Gamaliel Chapel.
TOMPKINSVILLE — Vivian Hammer died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, in Tompkinsville.
She was the daughter of the late Cecil Ray Hooker and Ocie E. Beach Hooker and wife of the late Richard “Jake” Hammer.
Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 11, at 1 p.m. at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home with burial in Hammer Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Allie Mae Johnson
MARTINSVILLE, Ind. — Allie Mae Johnson, 93, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at Morgan Hospital & Medical Center in Martinsville.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph William McGuire and Nancy Elizabeth Tarry McGuire. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Leon Hardin Sturgeon on May 12, 1969, and second husband, James Condie Johnson on Aug. 23, 2005; and a son, James Edward Sturgeon.
She was born in Hardin County on Sept. 29, 1914, and is the last of a family of 10 children. She previously worked at Morgan County Hospital (Morgan Hospital Medical Center) in Martinsville, Ind., where she received nurses’s training. She also operated nursing homes from her own home in Martinsville, Ind., and in Glasgow. She was a member of the Spearsville Church of Christ in Trafalgar, Ind. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and cooking.
Survivors include one son: Walter Sturgeon of Martinsville, Ind.; three daughters: Pheriba Hand and Covella Fleetwood-Victor, both of Whiteland, Ind., and Kathleen Geralds of Martinsville, Ind.; 10 grandchildren: TaNay Hughes, Dorcella Webb, Tony and Rick Fleetwood, Brad and Craig DeMott, Renda Trimble, Carmen Seigfried, Kim Woodyatt and Jody Sturgeon; 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life graveside service will be Sunday, Aug. 10, at 3 p.m. at Hiseville Cemetery with Brother Hollis Johnson officiating. Friends may call Sunday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Neal & Summers Mortuary, 110 E. Poston Road, Martinsville, Ind.
Emogene Poynter Wilson
EDMONTON — Emogene Poynter Wilson, 75, died Thursday, July 7, 2008, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.
She was the daughter of the late Shelby and Cora Poynter and wife of the late Porter Wilson.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Ford Cemetery at Savoyard. Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton is in charge of arrangements.
Richard Barry Haynes
GLASGOW — Richard Barry Haynes, 56, of Glasgow, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at his home.
Born in Barren County the son of Romie Haynes and the late Louise Lawrence Haynes, Mr. Haynes was an employee of Ideal Hardware in Glasgow for many years and later worked as a Real Estate Agent for Botts Reality and Taylor & Taylor Reality. He was married for 37 years to Tina Fant Haynes and a member of Hope Community Church in Glasgow.
Survivors include his wife Tina Haynes of Glasgow; father Romie Haynes of Smiths Grove; son Nathaniel Haynes of Glasgow; daughter Myria Taylor of Glasgow; Grandson Nicholas Taylor of Glasgow; 2 brothers, Johnny Haynes (Jennifer) of Smiths Grove and Mitchell Haynes of Smiths Grove; 1 sister, Becky Green (Eugene) of Smith Grove; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be 1p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Henderson Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1:00pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Paige Nichole Yokley
SCOTTSVILLE – Paige Nichole Yokley, 23, of Glasgow, and formerly of Scottsville, died at 2:55 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, from injuries recieved in an automobile accident on Highway 1297 near Glasgow.
The Scottsville native was a former waitress for Rafferty’s, an employee of Sonic and McDonald’s in Glasgow and attended Shady Grove General Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of Anthony Scott Hatler, who survives, and the late Marcella Ann Yokley Mesker.
She is also survived by Hatler’s wife, Vickie of Scottsville; one brother, Scott Pepper Yokley and his wife Virginia; her paternal grandmother, Juanita Hatler, all from Scottsville; two step-brothers, Charles Brandon Eaton and his wife, Ashlyn, Bowling Green, and Michael Holland, Scottsville; one step-sister, Amberlee Broadway and her husband Lucas, Scottsville, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, W.R. Hatler Jr.; maternal grandparents Bill and Jean Yokley, and one aunt, Ashley Marcus.
Funeral services for Paige Nichole Yokley will be 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Patrick and Bro. Kimble Willoughby officiating and burial in Allen County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Sunday at Goad Funeral Home.

GAMALIEL — Katherine Dyer Turner, 68, of Gamaliel, died Aug. 8, 2008, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Willie Robert Dyer and Anice McDonald Dyer and her husband, the late Bobby Lee Turner.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Sunday at Strode’s Gamaliel Chapel, with funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Strode’s Gamaliel Chapel.
Burial will be at Corinth Gardens in Macon Co., Tenn.
BOWLING GREEN — Loretta Wingfield, 50, of Brownsville, died Aug.8, 2008 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green.
She was the daughter of the late Billy Gene Watt and Albert Logsdon Watt, who survives.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date and are under the direction of Hardy & Son Funeral Home Bowling Green Chapel.
