Lester Odell Blakley

GLASGOW — Lester Odell Blakley, 77, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at the Glasgow State Nursing Facility. The Cumberland County native was a farmer and a son of the late James William and Ellen Mae Daniels Blakley.

He is survived by seven brothers: J.B. (Frances) Blakley and Cecil (Julianne) Blakley, both of Illinois, Chester (Charlotte) Blakley and Arnold (Martha) Blakley, both of Glasgow, James (Donita) Blakley and Raymond Blakley, both of Edmonton, and Charles Perry Blakley of Glasgow; two sisters: Fairy Devore and Bertha Blankenship, both of Glasgow.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Ina Ruth England and Reba Mae Smith; and a brother, Willie Edward Blakley; and several infant brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home, Summer Shade, with Brother Richard Staples officiating. Burial will follow in the Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will begin today at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.



Robert Dallas Boyd

GLASGOW — Robert Dallas Boyd, 78, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, Ky. He was born in Fort Myers, Fla., on Jan. 9, 1930, to the late Horace and Mary Carson Leffers Boyd. He was a longtime member and deacon of the Glasgow Baptist Church, a veteran of the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, and retired from the Glasgow Independent Schools.

Survivors include his wife: Martha Young Boyd; one son: Robert D. Boyd Jr. of Glasgow; one daughter: Suanne B. Stone and her husband Kevin; five grandchildren: Sara Katherine Stone, McCartney Laine Boyd, Travis Boyd Stone, Jordan Michelle Boyd and Kary Robinson Stone; two sisters: Sarah Boyd Smith and her husband Gene of Cairo, Ga., and Virginia Boyd Cherry of Lee, Fla.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Boyd; and a sister, Hellen Smith.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home, with burial in the Brookside Cemetery in Campbellsville. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. (CST) Thursday. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made to the Glasgow Baptist Church.

Ruby Etta Bybee

GLASGOW — Ruby Etta Bybee, 94, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

Her arrangements are incomplete, but are under the direction of the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.



Maxie C. Henderson

RICHTON PARK, Ill. — Maxie C. Henderson, 64, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008. He was the beloved husband of the late Wannetta (nee Burgess); devoted son of Lucille (nee Judd) Henderson; loving father of Timmy (Tammy) Henderson, JoAnna (Kenneth) Hartsfield, Brenda (Henry) Skala, and Kimberly (Brian) Janik; dear brother of William (Jacinta) Henderson, Robert (Jackie) Henderson, and James T. (Jorena) Henderson; and cherished grandfather of nine.

He was preceded in death by his father, Maxie P. Henderson. Maxie was a Navy veteran. 

He is resting at Hirsch Funeral Home, 3501 W. Lincoln Hwy. (Rt. 30), Matteson, Ill., where friends may call on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. with interment at Skyline Memorial Park, Monee, Ill.

Connie Wilson

GLASGOW — Connie Wilson, 54, passed away at 11:55 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, in Allen County. She was a Barren County native, a retired employee of the Glasgow Daily Times and a member of Neal’s Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by

her parents, Luther Edward Nunn and Elsie Ruth McGuire Nunn.

Joint funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home, Horse Cave. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 3 until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Survivors include one son: Steven Wilson and his fiance, Amanda Lyle, Hardyville; three daughters: Jennifer Jewell and her husband, Timmy, Central City, Melinda Young and her husband, Kris, Bowling Green, Amy Compton and her husband, Kevin, Glasgow; three grandchildren: Abigail Jewell, Drake Young and Sarah Beth Compton; four brothers: Carroll Nunn and his wife, Mary Ann, Glasgow, Steve Nunn and his wife, Phyllis, Edmonton, Robert Nunn and his wife, Pat, Elizabethtown, Rusty Nunn and his wife, Sadie, Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.

OAKLAND — Irene Scruggs Hendrick, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at a private home in Bowling Green. She was the daughter of the late Hubert Scruggs and Etta Manley Scruggs and wife of the late George Wellington Hendrick.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Bethel Cemetery. Visitation continues today until 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

GLASGOW — Sandra M. “Mikki” York, 48, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at her residence. She was a daughter of Darrell and Janice Hancock Matthews of Glasgow, a homemaker and a member of Living Word Ministries Church in Burkesville.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Jessie M. York; one daughter, Deanie Heers and husband, David, of Glasgow; one son, Matthew Dean Ballinger and wife, Camiel, of Park City; four grandchildren, Rylan Heers, Autumn Cleveland, Ashtyn Ballinger and Aden Ballinger; one sister, Marla Bryant and husband, Ricky, of Glasgow; one niece, Terra Vincent; one nephew, Ethan Bryant; special friends, Jerry and Brenda Anderson of Burkesville; several aunts and uncles, including Joyce Hancock of Glasgow.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
