Genevieve Glass Sandefur

EDMONTON – Genevieve Glass Sandefur, 94, of Edmonton, departed this life on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at NHC Healthcare of Glasgow, surrounded by her loving family. Genevieve was born Nov. 18, 1919, in Ohio County Kentucky to the late Ira and Floa Simpson Daugherty.

She was a member of Edmonton Baptist Church in Edmonton. She was a graduate of Hartford High School, attended University of Kentucky and Western Kentucky State College. She was a homemaker, teacher and worked for Kentucky Department of Human Resources until her retirement.

Along with her parents, Genevieve was preceded in death by husbands; Roger H. Glass, who she married on Jan. 31, 1939; Richard Sandefur, who she married on June 21, 1986; one brother, Landon Daugherty.

Genevieve is survived by two sons, James R. (Jo Ann) Glass, of Glasgow, and John R. (Diana) Glass, of Edmonton; two stepchildren, Dr. Richard Sandefur, of Evansville, Indiana and Diane Holder, of Lexington; five grandchildren, James Gregory (Denise) Glass, Jason E. (Sarah) Glass, Jennifer A. (David) Wilkinson, Matthew (Brooke) Glass, and Russell (Summer) Glass; seven great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers at NHC Healthcare who became like family over the last seven years.

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 21, from 4 until 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Butler Funeral Home. Her funeral will be on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Butler Funeral Home with Brother Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Randolph. Pallbearers will be Gregory Glass, Ryan Glass, Blane Glass, Matthew Glass, Russell Glass and David Wilkinson. The family request expressions of sympathy be made to Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
