Carrol O. ‘Carl’ Hartman
BOWLING GREEN – Carrol O. “Carl” Hartman, 66, of Bowling Green, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at his residence.
He was the son of the late Albert Otto and Louie Lea Steward Hartman, and husband of Margaret McClellan Hartman, who survives.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date, under the direction of Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel.
Cheyenne Rose Lloyd
SUMMER SHADE – Cheyenne Rose Lloyd, 8, of Summer Shade, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, in Glasgow, from a sudden illness.
Cheyenne attended South Green Street Church of Christ and was a third-grade student at South Green Elementary. She truly loved life and everyone in her life. She was a social butterfly who never met a stranger and lit up a room simply by being in it.
Cheyenne is survived by her parents, Daniel and Cassandra “Cassie” Lloyd, of Summer Shade; a sister Alayna Lloyd; maternal grandparents, Rick and Beverly Elliott, of Glasgow; paternal grandparents, Timmy and Hannah Lloyd, of Summer Shade; maternal great-grandmother, Virginia Galloway, of Smiths Grove; paternal great-grandparents, Clifton “Mousie” and Becky Loyd, of Summer Shade and Eva Dean and Ralph Adams, of Jamestown; great-grandmother, Louise Rose, of Glasgow; aunts and uncles, Haley and Nicholas “Nick” Pace, Coty Elliott, Justin and Lindsay Lloyd and Amber Lloyd; cousins Ella, Tate and Jackson Pace and Gracelyn Lloyd.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
GLASGOW – Viola McClard, 79, of Glasgow, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at University Hospital in Louisville.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but are under the direction of A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.
Charles Huston McMurtrey
SUMMER SHADE – Charles Huston McMurtrey, 87, of Summer Shade, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
He was the son of the late Herman L. and Hazel Grider McMurtrey.
Charles was owner and operator of McMurtrey Funeral Home, which was started by his father, Herman in 1929. He was also owner/operator of McMurtrey Planing Mill, which manufactured truck bodies for many years. Charles also participated in many civic organizations. He was a charter member of Summer Shade Lions Club; served on the Metcalfe County School Board from 1960 to 1967; a member of Monroe County Home Health Board for several years. Charles was a weather observer for the National Weather Service for more than 50 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arlene Morgan McMurtrey; three sons, Tom McMurtrey (Freda), of Summer Shade, David McMurtrey (Phyllis), of Maysville, Gary McMurtrey (Sharon), of Summer Shade; three daughters, Jan Page (David), of Bowling Green, Laurie Butler (Jimmy), of Edmonton, and Shana McMurtrey, of Summer Shade; nine grandchildren, Brian and Jason McMurtrey, of Summer Shade, Korey (Allison) McMurtrey, of Louisville, Ashley (Tom) Miller, of Lexington, Sarah (Scott) Hoover, of Louisville, Hannah Page, of Bowling Green, Russ, Emily and Ty McMurtrey, of Summer Shade; three great-grandchildren; and his beloved cat, Millie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Horace Florian (Buddy) McMurtrey.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 25, beginning at noon and continuing Thursday. Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with Brother Gary L. Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Summer Shade Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Summer Shade Volunteer Fire Department or the charity of one’s choice.
Paul B. Meadows
HORSE CAVE – Paul B. Meadows, 71, of Horse Cave, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at his home.
Paul was a native of Louisville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Christine Gosnell Meadows.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Meadows, of Horse Cave.
Funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville.
Visitation is in progress and will continue after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Masonic service was conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday night at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations are to be made to Crusade For Children.
