GLASGOW — Lottie Coates

PARK CITY – Lottie Coates, 89, of Park City, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, in Glasgow.

The Barren County native was the daughter of the late Jesse and Katie Tomes Nash. She was the wife of the late Robert Lee Coates.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Patton Funeral Home, Park City Chapel, and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church with burial in South Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church, in care of Ronnie Lindsey, 27000 Louisville Road, Smiths Grove, Ky. 42171.

Alice Morris Gilliland

HOPKINSVILLE – Alice Morris Gilliland, 85, died Jan. 4, 2013.

A native of Christian County, Ky., she was born Feb. 26, 1927, the daughter of the late Livvie Lawrence and Carrie Jewel Moss Morris. She was a homemaker and a member of Sinking Fork Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Thomas “Tom” Gilliland Sr., in 2007; a son, Thomas “Tommy” Gilliland Jr.; a granddaughter, Brooke Gilliland; and seven brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include a son, Tim (Julie) Gilliland, Christian County; a daughter, Mrs. Jimmy (Sandra) Heltsley, Glasgow; a sister, Sallie Morris, Waleska, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Sinking Fork Baptist Cemetery Fund, 5800 Princeton Road, Hopkinsville, Ky. 42240.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Lamb Funeral Home in Hopkinsville, with burial in Sinking Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Hopkinsville.

Ellis Elmer Hogan

HORSE CAVE – Ellis Elmer Hogan, 90, of Horse Cave, passed away in Cave City on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013.

The Cave City native was the son of the late Robert and Ruby Poynter Hogan. He was a farmer and member of the Cave City Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Gossett Hogan, Cave City; two sons, Tony Lynn Hogan, Glasgow, Ellis Gary Hogan, Cave City; a daughter, Pamela Ann Burnett, Indianapolis; a brother, Wesley Hogan (Elsie), Cave City; a sister, Jessell Isenberg (Earl), Poca, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Glenn Hogan.

Funeral services with Rev. Wayne Hatcher officiating will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City, with burial in Cave City Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 1 p.m. Friday.

Reverend Claud M. McCubbin

HARDYVILLE – Reverend Claud M. McCubbin, 90, of Hardyville, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at U of L Hospital in Louisville.   

He was the son of the late Charles and Martha Thompson McCubbin.   

Reverend McCubbin was a Missionary Baptist minister and evangelist for more than 50 years. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.  

He is survived by one son, David (Judy) McCubbin, of Hardyville; two daughters, Carol (Kenneth) Douglas, of Hardyville, and Linda (Mike) Streck, of Louisville; one sister, Esther Sanders, of Cave City; six grandchildren, Greg and Chris Douglas, Joshua McCubbin, Brenda Horgan, Donna Constant and Vickie Riccardio; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Toria Rodgers, and three brothers, Paul, Carl and Charles McCubbin.  

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Shady Grove Baptist Church with burial in Houk Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton and from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.  

Betty Lou Murphy

TOMPKINSVILLE – Betty Lou Murphy, 78, of Tompkinsville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at the Monroe County Medical Center.

Betty Lou was born in Tompkinsville, on Dec. 6, 1934, a daughter of the late Mamie (Emberton) and Don Marrs Grinestaff. On March 10, 1951, she married Newman Murphy, who survives her. Betty was a homemaker and was a member of Oak Hill Church of Christ.

Betty Lou is survived by one daughter, Rebecca (Steve) Miller, of Tompkinsville; one son,Wallace (Gillia) Murphy, of Florence; one grandson, Daniel Miller of Tompkinsville; two sisters, June (Rex) Gittings, of Tompkinsville and Deloris June, of Columbus, Ohio.

Funeral services will be at Yokley Trible Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, with Lewis Blythe officiating. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, 6 to 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Memorial Lawn.

Donations are suggested to the Alzheimers Association. Pallbearers will be Tony Walden, Reggie Cloyd, Kevin Cloyd, James Hagan, Kenny Hagan, Maxie Ross.

Beverly A. Smith

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Beverly A. Smith, 57, of Clarksville, Tenn., died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at her residence in Clarksville.

She was the daughter of the late Maurice Allen and the late Kathleen Shipp Allen.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Brooks Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home with Brother Bobby Neal officiating. Interment will be at Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia.


BOWLING GREEN – James Kenneth Carter, 83, of Bowling Green, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Hospice House of Bowling Green. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
