KNOB LICK — Wheeler Reid Oakes, 91, of Knob Lick, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at his home. He was the son of the late James Payton and Dellie Smith Oakes. Mr. Oakes was a World War II veteran and a retired farmer.
He is survived by three sons, Reid and wife Carol Oakes, of Lancaster, Ronnie and wife Kelly Oakes, of Knob Lick, Glen and wife Bernadette Oakes, of Knob Lick; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Oakes, of Edmonton; one sister, Lizzie Stephens, of Edmonton; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae Oakes; one son, Doug Oakes; two brothers, Lee Oakes, Vernon Oakes; four sisters, Olive Gray, Ovelia Gray, Orlena Nance, and Iris Polson.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the New Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
