Lois Jean Matthews Decker
LAKE BALBOA, Calif. – Lois Jean Matthews Decker, died peacefully on Nov. 13, 2012, in her son’s home in California, with him by her side.
She had bravely battled cancer for 14 months, never complaining.
She was born May 29, 1935, to Mae and Herman Matthews. She graduated from Glasgow High School second in her class and turned down a full scholarship to the University of Kentucky to get married and start a family. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Jean was a hugger and very generous with her time and many talents. She was artistic, a seamstress, a square dancer, a roller skater and a cake decorator. She loved poetry and theater.
She retired from Meidinger where she worked as an actuarial consultant. Upon retiring, she became an energetic volunteer. She served as a board member and secretary for the AIDS Education Coalition. She was a charter member of the AIDS Services Center Coalition. She was instrumental in the Louisville AIDS walk for nine years. She had also served as board treasurer and secretary with the AIDS Interfaith Ministries (AIM). She received numerous awards for her outstanding community service.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Mae and Herman Matthews; her sisters, Louise Vance and Ruth Hendricks; her brother, Doug Matthews; and her husband, Dale Decker.
She is survived by her brother, William Matthews, of Bowling Green; her daughter, Marsha Decker, of Louisville; her son, Doug Decker, of Lake Balboa, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by friends and family.
A celebration of her life will be conducted Saturday, May 18, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, in Louisville. Visitation will be from 10 until 10:45 a.m. with the memorial service beginning at 10:45 a.m. A graveside service will be attended by friends and family members at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery in Glasgow at approximately 1 p.m. (CDT).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to AIM of Kentuckiana Inc. or a charity of one’s choice.

Michael Edward Tubbs, 53, of Glasgow
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time for services at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Bro. Ben Benningfield and Rev. Scott Kerr officiating. Interment will be at Munfordville City Cemetery, Munfordville.
