Henry 'Ray' Mansfield

PLYMOUTH, Ind. – Henry Ray Mansfield, 82, passed away March 7, 2014, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, Ind., due to complications from a two-vehicle accident south of Plymouth back on Nov. 1, 2013.

Born on Oct. 3, 1931, in Glasgow, Ray was the son of Mack and Mary Melissa Ellen Goode Mansfield.

Ray was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged Nov. 1, 1960.

On May 3, 1955, Ray married Kathryn “Katie” B. Mason. The couple moved to the Plymouth area in 1961. Kathryn would precede Ray in death as a result of the accident on Nov. 1, 2013.

Ray did road construction in and around the Plymouth area. He then worked in the shipping and receiving department, as well as a tractor trailer truck driver, for 25 years for Ben Hill Griffen before his retirement in 1992. After retirement, he still drove for Pasquale in Valparaiso part-time.

Ray was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 27 and Veterans of Foreign War-Marshall County Post 1162 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He was also a member of the Plymouth Moose Lodge 741.

Ray loved time spent with his loving wife, Katie, and their families. They enjoyed camping, riding motorcycle, fishing and mushroom hunting. He could always be found tinkering around the house.
