Lucille Williams Johnson
GLASGOW – Lucille Williams Johnson, 95, of Glasgow, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Hospice House in Bowling Green.
She was the daughter of the late G.B. and Anna Pedigo Williams and the wife of 69 years to the late Cecil Johnson.
She lived a simple life and loved her family and will be remembered for her caring and generous spirit in helping those in need. She was a wonderful homemaker, and a member of First Christian Church. She had a long, full life and love from family, friends, and God.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Johnson Gettys; son-in-law, Norb Gettys; grandsons, Travis (Julie) and Rafe (Christin); great-grandson, Samson Gettys; great-granddaughter, Sasha Lucille Gettys; sister, Myrna Harbison; brothers, David and Lewis Williams; nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Trevor (Sharon) Gettys; sisters, Ruth Fox and Frances Shields; brothers, Joe, Frank, George, Leroy, Albert, and Clifton Williams.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Shirley ‘Ann’ Martin O’Bryan Norman
GLASGOW – Shirley “Ann” Martin O’Bryan Norman, 77, of Glasgow, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Barren County Healthcare Facility.
Born in Barren County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Mae Turner and wife of the late James Guy Norman. Mrs. Norman was a member of Clifton Baptist Church in Louisville.
Survivors include a grandson, John Norman; two sisters, Etta Calvert and husband Kenneth and Mary D. Carter, both of Glasgow; two brothers, Orby Martin, of Glasgow and Billy Joe Martin, of Cave City; a brother-in-law, Frank Morgan Jr., of Louisville; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a stepson, Jimmy Norman and his wife Bonnie; two sisters, Margie Ward and Nadine Morgan; and seven brothers, Rick, Herbert, Allen, David, Lee, Paul and Wilson Martin.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Paul Edward Porter
GLASGOW – Paul Edward Porter, 69, of Glasgow, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at his home.
His arrangements are incomplete, but will be under the direction of A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.
Annie Kathryn Rodgers
GLASGOW – Annie Kathryn Rodgers, 97, of Glasgow, passed away on Friday, Jan. 03, 2014, at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
A native of Metcalfe County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Betsy Lamburth Dilley. Mrs. Rodgers was a Registered Nurse, having trained at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, later moving to Lynch, and then to Paducah, where she worked for Atlas Powder Company. It was there she met Bill Rodgers, whom she married on Dec. 28, 1945. A short while later, they moved back to Glasgow where she began working at T.J. Samson Community Hospital as a Registered Nurse and continued for 39 years; 33 of which she was Director of Nursing. Mrs. Rodgers was also very active in community and civic organizations. She was a member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star; a member of the White Shrine; a charter member of the Glasgow B & PW Club; Member and Past President of the Glasgow Garden Club; a member of the Edmund Rogers Chapter DAR; a founding member of the Samson-ites, of which she continued to be active; and an avid researcher of family genealogy. Survivors include one son: Bill Rodgers and wife Judy of Fernardina Beach, FL; two grandchildren: Todd Rodgers and wife Lisa of Winterville, GA, and Amy Scurria and husband Mark of Chapel Hill, NC; four great-grandchildren: Alex, Will, Isabella, and Caitlin; several nieces and nephews including one special niece, Frances Royse.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Rodgers, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Eastern Star Services will be 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to T.J. Samson Hospice.
Lilly Maude Turner
GLASGOW – Lilly Maude Turner, 89, of Glasgow, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at NHC Healthcare Facility in Glasgow.
Born at Temple Hill, she was the daughter of the late Lucian and Mary Sater Matthews. Her husband was the late William Jessie Turner. Mrs. Turner was a homemaker, known for her homemade pies and she worked with her husband in Jessie’s Tractor Sales and Service in Glasgow. She was a member of Glasgow Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Sue Elmore and husband Bobby, of Glasgow, Martha Thompson and husband Allen, of Liberty, and Jan Clifford and husband Gary, of Hodgenville; six grandchildren, Robbie Elmore, Stephanie Dickerson (MacKay), Bradley Thompson (Jennifer), Emily Jones (David), Chris Elmore (Lisa) and Jonathan Elmore (fiancée Sarah); seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnn Turner and a granddaughter, Kathy Sue Elmore.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
RED BOILING SPRINGS, Tenn. – Norma Jean Beason Brown, 84, of Red Boiling Springs, Tenn. died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Strode’s Gamaliel Chapel. Burial will be in Gamaliel Cemetery in Gamaliel.
