GLASGOW — Irene Edwards

GRIDERVILLE – Irene Edwards, 81, of Griderville, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at the University of Louisville Hospital.

A native of Barren County, she was the daughter of the late Eugene H. “Jack” Turner and Dessie Grider Turner, and widow of the late Kenneth Clayton Edwards Sr. She was a self- employed farmer, a tax preparer and a member of Hiseville Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth C. Edwards Jr. and his wife Jane, of Griderville, and Jeff Edwards and his wife Bobbi, of Summer Shade; four granddaughters: Trinity Gonzalez and husband, Jesus; Morgan Edwards and her fiancé Eric Houghtaling; Katherine Brodbeck and husband Jake; and Meghan Edwards; three great-grandchildren, Eva Claire Gonzalez, Maggie Dee Houghtaling and Clayton Jacob Brodbeck.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Hiseville Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Richard Sartin

EDMONTON – Richard Sartin, 89, of Edmonton, died Sunday, April 21, 2013.  

He is survived by daughter Shelia and husband Fred Ray, of Edmonton; two sons, Rick and Marilee Sartin, of Louisville, and Todd Sartin, of Fischerville; two grandchildren, Walker Veal and John Ray; two great-grandchildren, Brittany Glass and Connor Ray; and two great-great-grandchildren, Lexie and Braedon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Sartin.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Randolph. Butler Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

   

Jack Carver Shelton

GLASGOW – Jack Carver Shelton, 86, of Glasgow, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville.

He was born in Barren County, a son of the late Frank and Lena Carver Shelton. Mr. Shelton was a former Barren County Magistrate for 18 years and was employed by Cave City Chevrolet for 30 years. Jack was also a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Austin Lodge #847 F&AM and of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Carver Shelton; one daughter, Sandra Vibbert and husband Tim, of Glasgow; one nephew, Jerry Wayne Shelton, of Bowling Green; and three nieces, Frankie Jo Bradley and Billie Shelton, of Glasgow, and Judy Shelton, of Georgia.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Guy, Wayne, Wendell and Joe Shelton.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday and the public is welcome to attend.

 

Johnny C. Smith

SMITHS GROVE – Johnny C. Smith, 75, of Smiths Grove, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at his residence.     

He was the son of the late Cozy and Helen Duckett Smith, and husband of Janis Stone Smith, who survives.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home



Dorothy Elizabeth Wade

GLASGOW – Dorothy Elizabeth Wade, 82, of Glasgow, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

She was born in Summer Shade, the daughter of the late Gilliam Penn Wade and Pauline Miller Atkinson Wade.

Miss Wade was a bookkeeper for 61 years for local CPA firms, automobile dealers and auto part stores. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the Edmund Rogers Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution where she served for 11 years as Registrar, the South Central Historical Society, the Barren County Republicans Club and the Glasgow Musicale.

She is survived by two brothers, James Wesley Wade and wife Emma Jean, of Summer Shade and Harold Thomas Wade and wife Mildred, of Harriman, Tenn.; two nephews, Mike Wade and wife Elaine and Mark Wade and wife Vickie, both of Glasgow; three nieces, Jill W. Smith and husband Joe, of Columbia, Linda Powell and husband Gary, of Harriman, Tenn. and Carol Peterson of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; five great-nephews, four great-nieces, two great-great nieces and two great-great nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Rebecca Wade.

At the request of Miss Wade, a graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 26, at  Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday.

Imogene Wright

FOUNTAIN RUN – Imogene Wright, 77, of Fountain Run, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.

The Fountain Run native was a daughter of the late Larkin Bransford Sisco and Viola Carnahan Sisco. She is survived by her husband, Huston Wright, of Fountain Run.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Goad Funeral Home with burial in Fountain Run Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Fountain Run Cemetery Fund. Donations may be made at Goad Funeral Home.

GLASGOW – Marion Byrd, 61, of Glasgow, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made to the Gideon’s.

Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel and on Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with burial at Fairview Cemetery #2. SCOTTSVILLE – Cora Brazzell Law, 95, of Scottsville, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Glenview Health Care in Glasgow. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Goad Funeral Home Chapel and burial in Allen County Memorial Gardens.



GLASGOW — Kay Mayfield, 96, of Glasgow, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, at NHC Healthcare. A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. No visitation is scheduled. Memorials may take the form of contributions to First Christian Church building fund.



GLASGOW – Linda Hammer Strode, 65, of Glasgow, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at A.F. TOMPKINSVILLE – Mildred Gearlds Walker, 73, of Tompkinsville, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Vanderbilt Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn. Funeral services will be at Yokley Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Visitation is in progress and will continue Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
