Bobbie Dixine Coomer

EDMONTON –Bobbie Dixine Coomer, 77, of Edmonton, formerly of Bridgeview, Ill., lost her battle with cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Bobbie was born in Edmonton on Feb. 10, 1936, to the late Birch and Lela Shive Hurt.

She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Coomer and her companion, Kevin Slifka, of Bridgeview, Ill., and Gail Bradley and husband David; and grandchildren, Dylan, Luke, Justus and Leah Bradley, all of Temecula, Calif.; two sisters, Betty Lou Robertson and husband Donald, and Alice Sue Gibson and husband Kenneth, both of Glasgow; one brother, Lois D. Hurt and wife Bettie Jean, of Fairmount, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles ‘Charlie’ Coomer; four brothers, Frank, Flem Donald, Lewis and Billy Hurt; and six sisters, Jewel England, Pearl Fudge, Juanita Garmon, Peggy Burnell, Earlene Marsh and Imogene Ross.

Bobbie retired from Rose Packing in Chicago in 2001 and moved back to Kentucky to the same community where her roots began. She loved life, adored her children and grandchildren and loved welcoming her friends, family, and neighbors into her home. She had a very special love for animals and because of her rescue efforts has saved the lives of many. Because of her desire to help others, she made the decision long ago to donate her body to research when that time came. This was her final gift.

There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Revenna Separate Baptist Church, 1400 Reece-Hurt Road, Edmonton. We welcome all friends, family, neighbors, and other acquaintances to please join us in remembering and celebrating Bobbie’s life. A meal at the church will follow the service.
