GLASGOW – Mary Akers, 83, of Haywood, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at her residence.
She was born in Barren County, the daughter of the late Willie Wood and the late Allie Wheeler Wood. Mrs. Akers was a homemaker and member of Dry Fork Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, Henry Clifton Akers (Martha) of Haywood; four daughters, Joyce Crumpton of Haywood, Faye Houchens (William Earl) of Glasgow, Nell Akers and Hope Akers, both of Haywood; five grandchildren, Cynthia Spillman of Glasgow, Adam Akers (Mary) of Bowling Green, Joe Akers (Lora) of Louisville, Cliff Akers (Amy) of Elizabethtown, and Sarah Crumpton (Brandon Drury) of Haywood; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley Lewis (Ro) of Bowling Green, Grayson Akers of Bowling Green, Kassidi and Molly Akers of Haywood, Rhaygen Scott of Glasgow, Salyssa and Conner Crumpton of Haywood, and Maleigha Drury of Haywood; two great-great-grandchildren, Rodaisha Lewis and Jaquaizion Lewis of Bowling Green. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Odell Akers; one brother, Milzie Wood; seven sisters, Vera Wilson, Marie Key, Jewell Mizell, Nellie Moore, Zelma Medley, Lucille Key and Dona B. Wood.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
GLASGOW – Charlotte Denning, 85, of Glasgow, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Glenview Healthcare in Glasgow.
Born in Glasgow, she was the daughter of the late Warner Milburn Mayfield and Grace Smith Mayfield. Mrs. Denning was a school teacher in the Barren County schools and was a member of Glasgow Chapter 257 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Denning; two daughters, Peggy Higgason (Darrell), of Greensburg, and Libby Garner (Jim), of Mount Vernon, Ohio; a grandson, Roy Higgason of Greensburg; and a sister, Elizabeth Cary (Clifton), of Glasgow.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Order of the Eastern Rites will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and the public is welcome to attend.

James Logan ‘Jim’ Grider Jr.
GLASGOW – James Logan “Jim” Grider Jr., 54, of Griderville, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
A native of Chicago, he was a son of J.L. and Sue Nell Alexander Grider of Griderville and a member of Hiseville Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Amy Ligon Grider; one son, James Logan Grider III of Chicago; two sisters, Leslie Harper (Roger) of Burbank, IL, and Sheila Hodges (Jamie) of Goodnight; six nieces and nephews, Ami Revels, Aaron Revels, Katelynn Landers, Ashley Landers, Brian Hodges and Sarah Hodges; one great-niece; four great-nephews; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William Grider; two sisters, Pamela Grider and Mary Lee Revels; maternal grandparents, Joe B. and Mary Alexander; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Thelma Grider.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Hiseville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Delsia Marie Hogan
PARK CITY – Delsia Marie Hogan, 82, of Park City, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, in Bowling Green after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Metcalfe County to the late Henry V. and Bertha M. Shirley Wilson. She was the wife of the late Leo Edward Hogan.
She was the former owner of Cedar Hill Campground and Wondering Woods Village and secretary at Western Kentucky University and Commonwealth of Kentucky Department of Military Affairs. She was a member of Big Meadow Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one son, Donnie L. Hogan, of Park City; and one grandson, Brian M. Hogan.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Junior Wilson; and one sister, Wyoming Wilson.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Patton Funeral Home, Park City Chapel. The funeral service will be Friday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
GLASGOW – Ottis Likens, 72, of Glasgow, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
The Barren County native was the son of the late Isaac and Maggie Taylor Likens. He was a self-employed T.V. repairman and was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Kirkwood Likens; five children, Harriett Gulley (Jessie), Rosie Ragle (Jerry), Ottis Likens II (May), Timmy Likens (Donna) and Debbie Ballard, all of Glasgow; two sisters, Sue York (Alvis) and Evelyn Decker, both of Glasgow; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Likens; four brothers, Albert, Lenville, Ernest and Herbert Likens; and three sisters, Stella Hiser, Rosa Dewbrew and Lucille McKenzie.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.
Sarah Jane Bastin Pennington
HORSE CAVE – On Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, Sarah Jane Bastin Pennington, 76, was called home by her loving Master and Saviour and joined her son, Gary Lynn Pennington, her great-granddaughter Haley Minor, her parents, Lloyd C. Bastin and Lela Wilson Bastin, and her brothers, Dale Bastin and Gene Bastin.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a loving (second mom) and faithful friend to many. She enjoyed reading her Bible and was a member of Little Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her lifelong helpmate and husband of 56 years, Robert Pennington, her five remaining children, Ronnie Gene Pennington, Connie Gayle Robertson (Darnell), Tammy Jane Felitsky, all of Horse Cave, Timothy Wayne Pennington (Margaret) of Shepherdsville and Tonya Sue Pedigo (Jimmy) of Glasgow; her 13 grandchildren, Shannon Jo Minor, Robert (Bobby) Vasquez, Kristy Lea Felitsky, Sarah Beth Vasquez, Shelly Ann Felitsky, Jay McMahan (Felicia), Bekka Brown (Tyler), Timmy Pennington Jr., Shay Lynn, Lacey, Bethany Brooke, Cheyenne and Courtney Pedigo, and honorary grandson, A.J. Shackleford; her seven remaining great-grandchildren, Kaley Minor, Bailey Vasquez, Chesney Bethel, Alivia Allen, Giovanni Vasquez, Jakob Brown and Hudson McMahan. Nanny was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her eighth great-grandchild, Camdyn Waggoner.
Also surviving are her beloved siblings, Denny Bastin of Indiana, Shirley Estes of Texas, Gail Van-Arsdale of Louisville, Billy Bastin of Indiana, and Amanda Zelonis of Arizona, along with a host of her much loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday Dec. 24, 2012, in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home with burial to follow in Whickerville Cemetery. Visitation will be at Winn Funeral Home from 11 until 8 p.m. Sunday and after 8 a.m. until funeral time on Monday.
Dennis Carl Stiltz
HORSE CAVE – Dennis Carl Stiltz, 57, of Hardyville, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg.
He was preceded in death by his mother Doris June Green Stiltz.
Survivors include his wife, Roxann Stiltz of Hardyville.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 until 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday until funeral time.
Billy Carol Wilborn
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Billy Carol Wilborn, 63, of Indianapolis, died there Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at his home.
Survivors include one daughter, Julie (Chris) Blythe of Tompkinsville; and two sons, Joey (Katie) Wilborn of Glasgow and Ben Wilborn of Summer Shade.
He was the son of the late Leo and Thelma Miller Wilborn.
There will be no funeral service as cremation was chosen. A private burial will be at a later date.
Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Wishart
GLASGOW – Jacqueline “Jackie” Wishart, 80, of Glasgow, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
Born in Hopkinsville, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Bessie Mae Bailey Stewart. Jackie was a graduate of Western Kentucky University and was registered nurse. She had worked for Dr. Russell Starr for 30 years at the former Howard Clinic and later for Drs. Ray Gibson and Orlando Bravo.
Currently she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was the former organist and choir director at Faith United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Glasgow Musicale.
She is survived by her son, Phillip Pursley (Carolyn) of Glasgow; her daughter, Carla Jones (Terry), of Bowling Green; two grandchildren, Jared Pursley (Nicole) and Jordan Elmore (Jacob); one great grandchild, Bella Kate Pursley; one brother, Frank Stewart (Joann) of Silver Springs, MD; two sisters, Jeannine Harlow, of Glendale, and Nell Doris Stewart, of Elizabethtown; a sister-in-law, Kathy Stewart, of Louisville; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Wishart; a grandson, Joshua Pursley; and a brother, Manuel Stewart.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday.
