MUNFORDVILLE – Philip Baise, “Big Phillip,” 83, of Munfordville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at home, surrounded by those who loved him most.
He was a Cumberland County native, born at Cloyd’s Landing on Oct. 24, 1929, but made his home in Munfordville for the past 58 years.
He was the son of late Frank and Ree Cloyd Baise, who preceded him in death, as did his two sisters, Doris Baise Albany and Betty Jo Baise Armstrong.
Big Philip was retired from telephone work and communications, having worked for South Central Rural Telephone, which brought him to Munfordville in 1954 and was retired from communications at Fort Knox.
He was an avid fisherman, UK basketball fan and Atlanta Braves fan. A true sportsman in all aspects of any game and a one-man pit crew during the latter days of his son’s drag racing career, having been awarded, ‘Pit Crew of the Year’ from US 60 Raceway, in Hardinsburg, in 1992.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 59 years, Jean Bacon Baise; one son, Philip Earl Baise and wife Becky, of Cave City; and one daughter, Patricia Baise, of Munfordville. He was most proud of his two grandchildren, Treavor Baise and R.J. Baise, also of Cave City. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, Bob Armstrong, of Bowling Green; one sister-in-law, Henrietta Gramlin, of Summer Shade; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home with Brother Ray Woody and Brother Brad Atwell officiating, with military honors provided by DAV Chapter of Glasgow.
Burial will be in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens in Glasgow. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 9 p.m. and after 8 a.m. Saturday at Sego Funeral Home. The family request that memorial donations be made to Coral Hill Baptist Church Missions, 3260 Coral Hill Road, Glasgow, KY 42141 or donations may be left Sego Funeral Home.
Steven Basil Turner, 64, of Tompkinsville
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 26, at 2 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial to follow in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Military rites will be performed at graveside by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. on Friday and after 7:30 a.m. on Saturday at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.
Harry James Hayes, 86, of Bowling Green
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, at Christ United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church
Geneva Christine England, 87, of Edmonton
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Walter Earl Kinslow, 90, of Glasgow
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday and continue Saturday from 7 a.m. until time for the service.
Alma Ruth Allen, 83, of Glasgow
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

William Gobel Shaw Jr., 79, of Glasgow
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Reid Welsh, 75, of Edmonton
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will begin Wednesday, July 23, at 3 p.m. and continue at the funeral home until time of services on Thursday.
Houston Riggs, 56, of Bonnieville
Funeral services for Houston Riggs will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Rounsaville officiating. Burial will be in Leesville Cemetery at Upton. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 9 p.m. CST and after 8 a.m. Thursday at Sego Funeral Home.
