Malinda Kaye Farlee
MARROWBONE – Malinda Kaye Farlee, 67, of Marrowbone, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.
She was a daughter of the late Jessee Otis and Lovie Anderson Hurt.
She is survived by her husband, Roy M. Farlee.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at House of Prayer Church with Brother Phil Lowry and Brother Wes Jolly officiating. Burial will follow in Beaumont Cemetery.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, April 9, at 2 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home and continue Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the church.
Helen Lavada Furlong
GLASGOW – Helen Lavada Furlong, 91, of Glasgow, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow.
She was born in Barren County, the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Huddleston Settles. Mrs. Furlong was a former employee of Sorensen Manufacturing and a member of Grider Memorial Baptist Church. Since residing in the nursing home, she has enjoyed the church services provided by Coral Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Jerry Furlong and wife Alice, of Glasgow; two daughters, Wanda England and husband Paul, of Munfordville, and Linda Wheeler of Camby, Ind.; one sister, Laverne Thomas, of Decatur, Ind.; six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chris Thomas Furlong, and a sister, Virginia James.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Henrietta Berry Hill
GLASGOW – Henrietta Berry Hill, 87, died peacefully, Friday, April 5, 2013, at Barren County Health Care Center in Glasgow, where she had lived since July 2012.
Henrietta was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Glasgow, Ky. She is the daughter of Mary Elizabeth and William Berry. She married William Thomas Hill of Edmonton, (who passed away May of 1992) in 1946.
Her brother, William J. Berry Jr., preceded her in death.
Henrietta and William were the parents of three children. Henrietta was a hairdresser for 63 years, retiring at age 80. Her “customers” became her extended family over the years, and they brought joy and meaning to her life.
In late 2011, after a health crisis, Henrietta moved from Kentucky to Idaho to live near her daughter. As her health worsened, her only request was to move back to her friends, family and her beloved Kentucky. She lived her final days in the town where she was born surrounded by loving family and caregivers.
Henrietta is survived by her three children, Sheran Hill Montgomery (Jim), of Boise, Idaho, Steve Hill (Lynn), of Louisville, and Chuck Hill (Jenny), of Lexington. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her brother, Harry C. Berry (Laura Jo); and her sister, Tommie Gray (Billy); along with nieces and nephews who saw her as a very special part of their lives.
A service will be conducted at noon Wednesday at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Ky. Interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
