Betty Louise Bryant

HARDYVILLE – Betty Louise Bryant, 75, of Hardyville, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, in Cave City.

Mrs. Bryant was a homemaker and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Green County. She was the daughter of the late Damon Cahoe and the late Dixie Pearl Anderson Cahoe.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Lee Bryant; one daughter, Yvonne Wilkerson; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua Allen Bryant and John Harvey Bryant.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Sue Carpenter (Gary), Cave City, and Lee Ann Pippen (Larry), Hardyville; two sons, Bill Harvey Bryant (Angie), Edmonton, and Albert Joseph Bryant (Michelle), Hardyville; two brothers, Mitchell Cahoe, Louisville, and Cecil Cahoe, Horse Cave; 19 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Brooks Funeral Home, Munfordville. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Brooks Funeral Home, with Brother Ronald Riordan officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Hardyville.

 

Jay B. Curtis

COLUMBIA – Jay B. Curtis, 73, of Columbia, formerly of Tompkinsville, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at his home.

He was born July 25, 1939, in Monroe County, to the late Carlos Curtis and Evie Liffie Rich Curtis. He was a retired butcher for Houchens Industries, a member of Mount Tabor Community Church and an army veteran. He was united in marriage on June 5, 1960, to Shirley Ann Cross Curtis, who preceded him in death on July 14, 2009.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Terri Ellen and Thom Rose, of Huntsville, Ala.; two nieces, Diane Peden, of Glasgow, and Deanie Turner of Augusta, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Xavier and Elizabeth Rose, of Huntsville, Ala.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Creed Curtis and a sister, Alma Marie Francis.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial to follow in Monroe County Memorial Lawn with military rites performed at graveside by DAV Chapter 20, of Glasgow. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Tuesday at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

 

Helen Staples Haynes Digh

LAKE CHARLES, La. – Helen Staples Haynes Digh, 78, of Lake Charles, La., formerly of Munfordville, died  Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the West Cal-Cam Hospital in Sulphur, La. She was the daughter of the late Jeff Davis Staples Sr. and Mary Beatrice Taylor Staples.

A graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Center Point Cemetery with Brother Kevin Denton officiating.  Sego Funeral Home, in Munfordville, is in charge of the funeral services.

Kenneth L. Gentry

CAVE CITY – Kenneth L. Gentry, 88, of Cave City, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at the Hart County Health Care Facility in Horse Cave.

He was born in Monroe County, the son of the late Georgie Gentry and the late Nelie Alice Combs Gentry. Mr. Gentry was a farmer and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his caregivers, Dr. Jim and Robin Crews, of Cave City; three sisters, Arene Gentry Trivett, of Mount Hermon, Emogene Proffitt, of Edinburgh, Ind., and Olene Williams, of Columbus, Ind.; one brother, Joe C. Gentry, of Edinburgh, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Lee Turner Gentry; one sister, Willowdean G. Kingrey; and three brothers, Leo, George Edward and Carlos Earl Gentry.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013, at the funeral home.

Carole ‘Patty’ Johnson

HARRODSBURG – Carole “Patty” Johnson, 60, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Cave City, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, in Harrodsburg.

She was the daughter of the late Harold and Laura Norvelle Johnson.

She is survived by her daughter, Marta Lea Gardner; two grandsons, Jared Kyle Ray and Broderik Thomas Huttinger; and her companion, Bobby Robinson.

The family has chosen cremation with a memorial service and burial in Cave City Cemetery, to be conducted at a later date. Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Wilna Webster Magers

CAVE CITY – Wilna Webster Magers, 95, of Cave City, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at her home.

She was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late George and Willena Sanford Webster. Mrs. Magers was a former employee of Union Underwear Company and attended Bon Ayr Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Magers; her daughter, Louise Magers Smith; a sister, Mary Ryles; and two brothers, G.W. and Robert Webster.

She is survived by a sister, Lillian Webster, of Cave City; a son-in-law, Roger Smith, of Cave City; a granddaughter, Jeanna Smith, of Cave City; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time for the service.

Donald Wayne Merideth

MUNFORDVILLE – Donald Wayne Merideth, 59, of Munfordville, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at his residence in Munfordville.

He was the son of the late Donald Wayburn Merideth and Lavern Louise Caswell Merideth of Munfordville.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Brooks Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Brother Ed Montgomery officiating. Interment will be at Munfordville Municipal Cemetery, in Munfordville.



Shawn Dale Thompson

SMITHS GROVE – Shawn Dale Thompson, 40, of Smiths Grove, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, in Simpson County.

He was the son of Howard Dale Thompson and the late Marilyn Jane Nichols Connors.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Smiths Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

GLASGOW — Timothy Milton Best, 65, of Glasgow, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at The Medical Center in Bowling Green. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Edmonton Baptist Church with burial in Edmonton Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, alternate expressions of sympathy can be made to the Best for the Bests fund at Edmonton State Bank or left at Butler Funeral Home. GLASGOW — Ralph “Rusty” Duvall, 83, of Glasgow, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at NHC Health Care Center in Glasgow. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.



GLASGOW — Willie C. Jordan, 84, of Glasgow, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at NHC Health Care Facility in Glasgow. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Fountain Run Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.



JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — Edward A. Smith, of Jeffersonville, Ind., died Jan. 24, 2013, at his home. Funeral will be noon Tuesday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial service will be planned later in the Louisville area, where he has resided since 1978.
