Kyle Edward Ballard
TOMPKINSVILLE – Kyle Edward Ballard, 76, of Tompkinsville, formerly of Summer Shade, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at his home.
He was a son of the late Radford and Sally Fansler Ballard.
Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 28, at 1 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home, with Brother Mark Parks officiating. Burial will follow in Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will begin Thursday, Dec. 27, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
PARK CITY – Frankie Bellamy, 82, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012.
She was the daughter of the late Parker and Inez Cloyd Allen. She was a member of Woodland United Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Marquita Bellamy Cook; her son, Mark Bellamy, and his wife Janet; special nephew, Estel Stamper, and his wife Linda; four grandchildren, Tori Vincent, Shannon Bellamy, Clint Cook, and his wife Beth, and Adam Bellamy, and his wife Megan; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carlos Allen and Ralph Allen; one sister, Gelee Jameson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Bellamy; one son, Steven Bellamy; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
JEFFERSON, Ind. – Robert Coats, 59, of Jefferson, Ind., passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Glasgow on Sept. 21, 1953. He was a member of Horse Cave Baptist Church.
Robert worked most of his life as a welder at Trailer World in Bowling Green and spent most of his free time in the last few years as a volunteer at Wayside Christian Mission in Louisville. He was led to helping the homeless and people with addiction. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ellis Coats; mother, Katherine Coats; and sister, Sharon Harlow.
Robert is survived by one son, Brandon Childress, of Cave City; one granddaughter, Charlotte Childress, of Cave City; one brother, Mark Ellis Coats, of Cave City; one uncle, Jess Goodhue, of Louisville; three nephews, Travis Coats and Nick Coats, both of Cave City, and Corrie Harlow, of Hardyville.
Sego Funeral home is assisting the family with the arrangements, which are pending at this time.
Jo Ann Crittenden
BOWLING GREEN – Jo Ann Crittenden, 81, of Bowling Green, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Ardis Hughes and Lowren Butler Hughes.
She is survived by her husband, Don Crittenden.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Fairview Cemetery #2.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home
Mary Lorene ‘Rene’ Hanking
CAVE CITY – Mary Lorene “Rene” Hanking, 74, of Cave City, passed away Wednesday Dec. 26, 2012, at her home after an extended illness.
Rene loved God, her family and friends and her church. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be remembered by her faith, joy and love in the midst of suffering. Rene was a member of Barren County Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles; a daughter, Karen Elaine Lievers (Russ), of Jeffersonville, Ind.; a grandson, Aaron Joseph Lievers (Viki), of Georgetown, Ind.; a granddaughter, Mary Hayley Lievers, of Jeffersonville, Ind.; her mother, Bernice Coomer, of Hiseville; five sisters, Jo Anne Gooden, of Louisville, Judy Gossom, of Oakland, Kathy Pollack, of California, Teresa London (Randy), of Hiseville and Vickie Coomer Mosby, of Glasgow; four brothers, Kenneth Coomer (Ann), of Clarksville, Ind., Phillip Coomer (Sharon), of Alvaton, and Michael Coomer and Tim Coomer (Cherri), both of Hiseville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Coomer.
A celebration of Rene’s life will be 10 a.m. Saturday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home, with burial in Hiseville Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday.
Jackie Elizabeth West Jackson
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Jackie Elizabeth West Jackson, 62, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, in Indianapolis.
She was born March 31, 1950, to Tom Ellen Buford West and the late Guy West. She attended Glasgow Schools and was employed by T.J. Samson Community Hospital and later by Winona Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis. In later years, she did private duty nursing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Jackson, and sons, Stacey Tyrone West Sr. and Darius Wilson.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Tom Ella West; grandsons, Stacey West Jr. and Darius West; a great-grandson; sisters, Joann Howard and Joyce Webb; brother, William Guy “Billy” West; niece and nephew that Jackie raised, Teresa Webb and John Adams; nieces, Phyllis McPhear, Neysa Howard, Terri McKenzie, Quenna Howard, and June Button; nephew, William Guy West Jr.
Visitation with the family will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home, with a graveside service immediately following at Oddfellow Cemetery.
Frankie Rector Martin
SMITHS GROVE – Frankie Rector Martin, 85, of Smiths Grove, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Clifton Rector and Venus Cox Rector, and wife of the late Beckham Martin Jr.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Oakland Baptist Church, with burial in Smiths Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Barbara Sue Nance
EDMONTON – Barbara Sue Nance, 80, of Edmonton, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Metcalfe Health Care in Edmonton. She was the daughter of the late Dewey and Pauline Simmons Martin. She was a member of Grace Union Baptist Church and retired from Mallory's in Glasgow.
She is survived by two sons, Marty, and wife Margaret Nance, Jeff, and wife Lisa Nance, all of Edmonton; two granddaughters, Angela (Roger) Compton, of Campbellsville, and Rachel (Trevan) Price, of Chesterfield, Mo.; and one great-granddaughter, Addison Compton.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Radford Nance.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Butler Funeral Home, in Edmonton, with burial in Missionary Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Kenneth H. ‘Jack’ Self
ELIZABETHTOWN – Kenneth H. “Jack” Self, 79, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.
He was a native of Munfordville and the son of the late Homer and Mabel Brent Self.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Self.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, with burial in Mount Beulah Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. and after 8 a.m. Saturday at Sego Funeral Home.
Emma Doris Turner
TOMPKINSVILLE – Emma Doris Turner, 80, of Tompkinsville, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Monroe County Health and Rehab Center.
Doris was born in Tompkinsville, April 27, 1932, a daughter of the late Bessie (Morris) Turner and Carlos Allen. She married Edwin Morris Turner, who precedes her in death.
Funeral services will be at Yokley Trible Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, with Brother Paul Strong officiating. Visitation will start Thursday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bowman-Poplar Log Cemetery.
Wendell R. Underwood
GLASGOW – Wendell R. Underwood, 98, of Glasgow, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Barren County Health Care.
He was born in Barren County, the son of the late Elijah Edward and Ina Spradlin Underwood. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Beulah Carder Underwood and his second wife of 21 years, Mary Ruth Smith Underwood.
He was a member and deacon at Caney Fork Missionary Baptist Church and a former member and deacon at Temple Hill Baptist Church. Wendell was a dairy, tobacco and beef cattle farmer, a former president of Temple Hill Lions Club, served on the Soil Conservation Board for 26 years, a founding member of Temple Hill Fire Department and a trustee for Poplar Log Cemetery Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his antique tool and gas engine collection.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Kay Dickson (Rollin), of Glasgow; one granddaughter, Jennifer Denton (Tony), of Versailles; two great-grandchildren, Seth and Meghan Denton; two stepchildren, Janet Ruth Wilding (Richard), of Louisville, and Terry Smith (Lois), of Portland, Tenn.; and several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Mitchell and Malcolm Edward Underwood; and three sisters, Anna Pearl Benedict, Edna Louise Bartley and Shelba Jean Lyons.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home, with burial in Poplar Log Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 1 to 8 p.m.
Ernest Gene Walker
TOMPKINSVILLE – Ernest Gene Walker, 72, of Tompkinsville, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at his home.
On Dec. 12, 1963, he married Glenda Sue Walker, who preceded him in death.
Ernest was born in Tompkinsville, on Aug. 2, 1940, a son of the late Gracie Ellen (Tinsley) and Clarence Everett Walker.
Graveside services will be conducted at Brown Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, with Charles Walker officiating. Yokley Trible Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
PARK CITY – Delsia Marie Hogan, 82, of Park City, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, in Bowling Green after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Patton Funeral Home, Park City Chapel. The funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
HORSE CAVE – Nita Mouser Melloan, 85, of Horse Cave, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at the home of her sister. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home with burial to follow in Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home. GLASGOW – Marilyn Lee Page, 63, of Glasgow, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Randolph. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
