GLASGOW — Ralph Lee Birge

GLASGOW –  Ralph Lee Birge, 66, of Glasgow, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Monroe County on February 5, 1946, to the late Ned Birge and Mable Ruth Gramlin Birge. He was a retired factory worker for Dana Corp., a member of the Church of Christ and a Vietnam veteran. He was united in marriage on April 27, 1968, to Patricia Wheat Birge.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Birge, and one son, Scott Birge, both of Glasgow; and one brother, Ronald Birge, of Louisville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy Dean, Gary David and Charles Edward Birge.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial to follow in Monroe County Memorial Lawn.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. on Friday at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.

Memorials are suggested to Poplar Log Church of Christ or the American Heart Association.

Mary Elizabeth Beard Jones

KNOB LICK –  Mary Elizabeth Beard Jones, 96, of Knob Lick, beloved teacher and mother, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at T.J. Samson Hospital.

Mrs. Jones devoted 49 years to educating the children of the Metcalfe County School System. She was the daughter of the late Melvin and Ada Hayes Beard.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lenita (Tom) Hughes; four grandchildren, Letitia (Mark) Hughes, Tom (DeAnn) Hughes II, Greg (Missy) Simpson, and Vonda (Brad) Pace; six great-grand children, Ryan and Wesley Simpson, Mariah and Malena Hughes, Tanner Pace and Hallie Hughes; son-in-law, Robert Leonard; and extended family member, Yvonne Beard.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Jones; a daughter, Joyce Nell Leonard; and her brother, Paul Beard.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 21, at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton, with burial in Metcalfe County Memorial Gardens.    

Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Metcalfe County Public Library for children’s books.
