GLASGOW — Carl Thomas Birge
ELIZABETHTOWN – Carl Thomas Birge, 75, of Elizabethtown, Ind., died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2013, in Elizabethtown.
He was a son of the late Eddie Ray and Ruby Ellender (Jackson) Birge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Birge.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Poynter officiating. Burial will follow in White Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of McMurtrey Funeral Home, 2232 Summer Shade Road, Summer Shade, KY 42166.
Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Thurman Scott Carter
LOUISVILLE – Elizabeth “Betty” Thurman Scott Carter, 89, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2013.
She was born on Thursday, June 18, 1925, to E. Hayden and Hettie Hurt Thurman, in Metcalfe County.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands, Robert A. Scott and Robert S. Carter.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Chestnut Grove Cemetery at Breeding. Visitation will be from 3 until 8 p.m. Saturday and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Essex Nursing and Rehabilitation Activities Department, 9600 Lamborne Blvd, Louisville, KY 40272.
Johnnie C. Dubree
SUMMER SHADE – Johnnie C. Dubree, 50, of Summer Shade, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013.
He was a son of the late Jimmie Dubree and Shirley Dubree Glover, of Summer Shade.
Survivors include his wife, Kim Moss Dubree and his mother, Shirley Dubree (Bobby) Glover, of Summer Shade.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Sept. 1, at 3 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with Brother Roger Poynter officiating. Burial will follow in Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the funeral home.
Betty Jean Lyle
GLASGOW – Betty Jean Lyle, 82, of Glasgow, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Glenview Health Care Center.
The Mississippi native was a daughter of the late Richard and Dora Rose Pitts. She was an LPN, having worked at various military hospitals, T.J. Samson Community Hospital, and various local nursing homes. She was a former vice president of the local U.A.W. chapter, and had been an active member of the Glasgow Scottie Band Parents. She was a founding member and prayer chaplain of the Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV Auxiliary. She was a member of Glasgow First Assembly of God and had developed numerous prayer chains. She had just recently developed a prayer group that met at Glenview Health Care Center.
Survivors include one son: Keith E. Lyle Jr. and his wife Marilyn, of Charlestown, Ind.; one daughter: Pique Lyle and her partner Peter McGowan, of Port Washington, N.Y.; five grandchildren: Keith E. Lyle III and his wife Lesli, Heather Marie McKinney, Paul Hunter McKinney, Elizabeth Ann McKinney, Kelly Rae McKinney and her children Abigail Rae and Eloise Ann Marie; one step-granddaughter: April Budd; four great-grandchildren: Caleb, Alec, Keegan, and Chelsea Lyle; six step-great-grandchildren: Alex, Adrian, Abby, Shawna, Renea, and Lynn.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Eldon Lyle and one daughter, Denise Lyle.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Little Barren Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Charles Donald ‘Charlie’ Rich
HAYWOOD – Charles Donald “Charlie” Rich, 73, of Haywood, died Friday. Aug. 30, 2013, at NHC Healthcare Facility.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, but are under the direction A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.
Johnny Lewis Young
SUMMER SHADE – Johnny Lewis Young, 50, of Summer Shade, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green.
He was the son of the late Marvin and Delphia Cawthorn Young. He was an employee of CCC Contracting.
He is survived by his wife, Katrina Emberton Young; one son, John David Young, of Glasgow, and one daughter, Tonya Young, of Edmonton; two step-children, Haley and Natalie Barrett, both of Summer Shade; three brothers, Jeff Young, of Edmonton, Roy and Earl Young, both of Indiana; four sisters, Rita Bryant and Donita Young, of Edmonton, Jewell Hurt, of Scottsburg, Ind., and Mary Bryant, of Frankfort. Three grandchildren also survive.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters, Bill Young, Darrell Young, Lee Young, Virginia Ann Young and Francis Josephine Smith.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Cedar Flat Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
LOUISVILLE – Hilda Mae Copas, 91, of Louisville, and a former Barren County resident, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, in Louisville. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Rocky Hill Cemetery.
