GLASGOW – Kenneth Beard, 73, of Glasgow, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at The Medical Center in Bowling Green.
He was born in LaRue County, the son of the late Lindsey Burlin Beard and Evelyn Allen Bennett, of Elizabethtown, who survives. Kenneth was an engineer with the Mallory Corp. in Glasgow. He had been a member of Bethel Baptist, Glasgow Baptist and Immanuel Baptist churches.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jane McInteer Beard; three children, Andy Beard, of Dallas, Texas, Jeff Beard (Hilary White), of Bethpage, Tenn., and Robin Creek (Brian), of Columbus, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Alyssa Beard, Zeke, Rees and Gage Carnahan, Riley, Reagan and Jack Beard, Griffin and Piper Creek; three brothers, Lindsey Beard Jr., of Campbellsville, Buster Beard and Michael Beard, of Hodgenville; three sisters, Betty Richards, of Hodgenville, Bonnie Cunniff, of Florida, and Marsha Parr, of Elizabethtown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Anthony Beard.
Ken was married to Jane for 48 happy years. He was a quiet soul who was endlessly curious about how things worked. He loved his family, genealogy and making things work. He will be missed.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in LaRue County. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m.
Peggy Elaine Childers McDowell
GLASGOW – Peggy Elaine Childers McDowell, 77, of Glasgow, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow.
She was born on Feb. 14, 1936, in Louisa, and was the daughter of George Lawrence Childers and Helen Marie Hinkle Childers. The family moved to Louisville during her early years and she graduated from Southern High School in 1954. She received her elementary education degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1958.
Peggy married the Rev. Patrick Edward McDowell on Aug. 10, 1958, and they made their first home in Nashville, where she taught a first-grade class. In later years, she taught in the Owensboro, Glasgow and Campbellsville independent school systems, including 13 years at E.B. Terry School on Columbia Avenue in Glasgow. Peggy completed her M.A. degree and her Rank 1 certification at Western Kentucky University.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. George R. Sotsky (George Ann).
Surviving are her husband, Pat Ed, and five children: Mark Edward McDowell (Erin), of Louisville; Eric Kendall McDowell, of Glasgow; Everett Lawrence McDowell, of Glasgow; Mrs. Lorri P. McComb (Tom), of Gallatin, Tenn., and Mrs. Eileen W. Stockham (Jeff), of Somerset. Seven grandchildren also survive: Alyona McDowell, Jonathan McComb, Ben McComb, Nathaniel McComb, Haley Stockham, Katherine Stockham and J. D. Stockham. She is also survived by two brothers, Frank and Larry Childers, both of Louisville.
Funeral services will be conducted at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday and after 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Alternative expressions of sympathy may be designated to the Kids’ Hope Ministry at First United Methodist Church, 500 S. Green St., Glasgow, KY 42141.
Reba Ellen Miller
EDMONTON – Reba Ellen Miller, 57, of Edmonton, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at T. J. Samson Community Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but are under the direction of A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.
Charles W. Trulock
CUB RUN – Charles W. Trulock, 80, of Cub Run, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at his residence in Cub Run.
He was the son of the late Henry Louis Trulock and the late Ella Mae Puckett Trulock.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Meredith Trulock.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Brooks Funeral Home and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan.11, at Macedonia United Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Macedonia United Baptist Church with Brother Jerry Patton, Brother Jeff Doyle and Brother Malcolm Doyle officiating. Interment will be at Cherry Springs Cemetery in Cub Run.
CUB RUN – Thelma Jean Childress, 88, of Cub Run, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at her home. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Stockholm United Baptist Church with burial in Stockholm Church Cemetery. Patton Funeral Home Brownsville Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
CAVE CITY – Dixie June Durbin, 68, of Cave City, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital, Glasgow. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City, with burial in Cave City Cemetery.
GLASGOW – Gladys Dockery Hunt, 97, of Glasgow, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
MUNFORDVILLE – Mildred Louise Snyder Templeman died Monday, Jan, 6, 2014, at Hart County Healthcare Center in Horse Cave. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Church Cemetery, Munfordville.
