Charles L. ‘Cotton’ Cowles
BOWLING GREEN – Charles L. “Cotton” Cowles, 75, of Bowling Green, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, at his residence.
The Warren County native was a son of the late Hughie and Christina Watt Cowles and preceded in death by a brother, Junior Cowles. He was owner-operator of several businesses. He was an Air Force veteran, a member of Smiths Grove Presbyterian Church, VFW and the American Legion. He loved people and loved having his family and friends around him.
Survivors include his wife, Dolly Cowles; his children, Bobby Cowles (Donna), Gina Cowles Skaggs, Stephanie Cowles; stepchildren, Lance Lesh, Triston Evans, Charlie Evans, Robert Evans, Kathy Warden; six grandchildren, Robert Cowles, Johnathan Cowles (Michelle), Andrew Ault, Caleb Skaggs, Sadie Skaggs, Heather Hood; six step-grandchildren, Erika Evans, Carson Evans, Garrett Evans, Parker Evans, Meredith Evans, Christian Lesh; three great-grandchildren, Micah Cowles, Elizah Cowles, Andrew Ault II; a sister, Kathleen “Pat” Harrod (Lionell); a special cousin who was closer than a brother, Larry Watt, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel with burial in Smiths Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. – Jennifer Buss, 42, Surfside Beach, S.C., went home to be with the Lord at her home in South Carolina. She was born in Royal Oak, Mich., on April 9, 1971. She is the daughter of Jim and Betty Hogue Buss, of Loveland, Ohio, and was a licensed cosmetologist and beautician.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Christopher Buss and wife Kristen, of New York; a son, Bradley Buss and his fiancée Lena, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two grandchildren, Autumn and Jonathan Buss; one uncle, Henry Hitchcock and wife Mary, of Florida; five aunts, Peggy Hogue Fuller of Washington, D.C., Willowdean Hogue Fonner, Wanda Hogue Peavley and Josephine Hogue Shockley, all of Glasgow, and Ann Raj, of Stockdale, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Alline and Orville Hogue, of Glasgow, and Ezra and Noe Buss, of New Hampshire; an uncle, James Hogue; and an aunt Faye Kingery, of Glasgow.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Evie Janelle Bartley Conkin
TOMPKINSVILLE – Evie Janelle Bartley Conkin, 83, of Tompkinsville, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, at NHC in Glasgow.
She was the wife of the late Robert Marrs Conkin and daughter of the late Clyde Bartley and Vera Harlan Bartley.
Visitation will be after 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, and after 7:30 a.m. on Saturday at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville. Funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Liberty Cemetery in Tompkinsville.
Memorials are suggested to Liberty Cemetery or American Heart Association.
GLASGOW – Gene Lynn, 84, of Glasgow, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
He was the son of the late Lacy and Ellie Sears Smith Lynn. Gene was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a retiree of Ford Motor Company in Livonia, Mich., since 1983. He was a devoted and loving family man and loved the outdoors, including fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Fant Lynn; two daughters, Julia Hura and husband Larry, of Inkster, Mich., and Barbara Masterton and husband Dennis, of Wayne, Mich.; three grandchildren, Jarrod Hura, Corinna Johnson and husband Tim, and Jaime Hura; five great-grandchildren, Zachary Johnson, Kiera Hura, Jackson Johnson, Olivia Johnson and Braelyn Hura; two sisters, Wynona (Kenneth) Young and Marianna (Mike) Harlow and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and George Smith; and three sisters, Geneva Jones, Freda Graven and Rossie Paterson. He will be greatly missed and remembered always with our love.
A memorial service is being planned and will be announced at a later date. A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Sarah A. McAhren
FRANKFORT, Ind. – Sarah A. McAhren, 97, of Frankfort, passed away Dec. 12, 2013, at Clinton House Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Jan. 3, 1916, in the Nobob community of Barren County, to the late Benton McMillan and Pernie Alice (Goode) Miller. She married William Orvin McAhren on Dec. 27, 1942, in Pickard, Ind., and he preceded her in death on April 15, 1980.
Sarah moved to Indiana in 1941, where she later resided in the Scircleville and Hillisburg communities. She retired from Uni Electric in Frankfort. She was former member of Union #2 Baptist Church and a graduate of Temple Hill High School.
Survivors include cousins Ruth Wilborne Maxwell, of South Bend, Ind.; and several nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec.17, at Archer-Weston Funeral Home. Pastor Mark Mowery officiated the service. Burial was in Scott Cemetery in Scircleville.
Judy Faye Mabe Riggs
MUNFORDVILLE – Judy Faye Mabe Riggs, 63, of Munfordville, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, in Bonnieville, as a result of an accident.
She was the daughter of the late James Mabe and Juanita Butler Mabe.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Willis Riggs, of Munfordville.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, at Brooks Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home with Brother Terry Priddy and Brother Phillip Sallee officiating. Interment will be at Upton Cemetery, in Upton.

Dollye Shives Simpson
LOUISVILLE – Dollye Shives Simpson, 92, of Louisville, formerly of Beaumont, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at the home of her daughter.
She was a daughter of the late Walter and Anna McCluskey Shives and was a member of Beaumont United Methodist Church. She was retired from Handmacher Manufacturing after having worked there 34 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Tammy (Gary) Gibson, of Louisville; three grandchildren, Kyle and Caleb Gibson, of Louisville, and David (Patricia) Simpson, of Edmonton; three great-grandchildren, Haley and Erica Simpson and Ryder Knight. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edd Simpson, and two sons, Michael Eddie and Charles Freddie Simpson.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at Beaumont United Methodist Church with Brother Joe Wilcoxson officiating. Burial will follow in Beaumont Cemetery. Visitation will begin Friday, Dec. 27, at 3 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home and continue at the church at 9 a.m. Saturday until funeral time at 11 a.m. Memorial may be made at Beaumont Cemetery.
Levy Smith Jr.
GLASGOW – A soldier died today. Retired U. S. Army veteran Levy Smith Jr., 85, of Glasgow, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
Born in Pontiac, Mich., he was the son of the late Levy and Mildred Coomer Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Vance Smith, of Glasgow; a sister, Maxine Smith Norman, of Glasgow, two sons and a daughter.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with military honors by D.A.V. Chapter #20 of Glasgow to follow at Happy Valley Memorial Gardens.
Charles Edward Stinson
MUNFORDVILLE – Charles Edward Stinson, 70, of Munfordville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at his home with his loving family surrounding him. He was a native of Hart County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint Stinson and Margaret Thompson Stinson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Avery Stinson, of Munfordville
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Northtown Baptist Church with burial to follow in Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be at Winn Funeral Home from 2 until 9 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. until funeral time at Northtown Baptist Church on Saturday.
