Maida Louise Barnes

HORSE CAVE — Maida Louise Barnes, 73, of Horse Cave, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 at Hart County Health Care Center in Horse Cave.

Maida was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Lovie Smith.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home with burial in Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Gertrude Harlow Bloniarczyk

CAVE CITY — Gertrude Harlow Bloniarczyk, 97, of Cave City, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 at her home.

The Barren County native was the daughter of Harmon and Opha Chapman Harlow and her husband was the late Frank Bloniarczyk. She was a school teacher and school principal for 37 years, spending most of her career in Saginaw, Mich. She was a member of Park City Baptist Church.

Survivors include a niece, Teresa Watson and husband Barry, of Glasgow; three nephews, Harmon “Hardy” Harlow and wife Connie, of Park City, and Leo W. Harlow Jr., of Cave City, and Chuck Childers, of Glasgow; several great-nieces and nephews; one great-great nephew; one great-great-great niece and her caregivers, Mary Glover and Betty Pruitt.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo W. Harlow and Leslie Marshall Harlow, and a niece Lesley Childers.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Walnut Hill Baptist Church with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home Friday beginning at 5 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until time for the service.

Marlow Carroll

BEE SPRINGS – Marlow Carroll, 88, of Bee Spring, passed away at his home on Dec. 12, 2013.

The Edmonson County native was born June 22,1925. He was a heavy equipment operator and farmer. He was of the Baptist faith, a member of the VFW and a World War II Army veteran. He was the son of the late Acie Carroll and the late Annie Cook Carroll.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Lillian VanMeter Carroll; four daughters, Sue Renfro and husband Sammy, Chalybeate, Mearedia Gross and husband Will, Alvaton, Lauretta Jaggers and husband Tony, Bowling Green, Sandra Carroll, Texas; two brothers, Elba Carroll and wife Pat, Lindseyville, Randall Carroll and wife Lee, Bee Spring; one sister, Texie Colley, Chalybeate; two grandchildren, Jay Madison and wife Stephanie and Kim Renfro; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Patton Funeral Home Brownsville Chapel. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Patton Funeral Home Brownsville Chapel. Burial with military rites will be in Hubsfield Church Cemetery.

Arthur Hanson Gibbons

LOUISVILLE — Arthur Hanson “Art” Gibbons, 59, of Louisville, passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013.

He was a son of the late William A. “Beezie” and Angie Hanson Gibbons. He was a native of Barren County, graduating with the Glasgow High School class of 1973 and later graduated from Bowling Green Business College. He had been employed by UPS in Louisville as an aircraft package handler and previously worked in golf course development. He had been an owner and operator of Scottie Lanes Bowling Alley in Glasgow. He was known for his love of the Glasgow Scottie Band as well as being an avid fan of University of Louisville basketball. Art cherished his family and friends; and, they supported him with his cancer battle; he will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his twin sister and her husband, Mary “Beth” (Gibbons) and Brent Foster, of Blue Bell, Penn.; brother and wife, David and Jonnie Gibbons of Anaheim, Calif.; niece Sarah Foster of Washington State and nephew William Foster of Colorado; aunt and uncle Doretha (Hanson) and Charlie Bensenhaver of Louisville, and many cousins and friends.

He chose cremation.

A graveside memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, at Locust Grove Cemetery, Mammoth Cave. A.F. Crow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu flowers, the family suggests donations to cancer research or the charity of choice.


Edward Burton Henry

LEXINGTON – Edward Burton Henry, 81, of Lexington, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013.

He was born May 28, 1932, to the late Tandy and Omie Kerns Henry. Ed was an insurance adjuster for 42 years and retired from Henry Adjustment Company, affiliated with Pedigo-Lessenberry Insurance Agency in Glasgow, where he lived for 27 years. He served in the US Air Force as an air traffic controller during the Korean War, a member of Highland Rotary Club, Glasgow and received the Paul Harris Fellow award. Mr. Henry also attended Mount Zion Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy May Henry; one daughter, Cassandra (Howard) Gray; three sons, Steve Henry, Bruce (Holly) Henry and Kent (Mary) Henry; 10 grandchildren, Keturah, Rebekah, Carl Gray, Mary Bruce (Timothy) Alford, Brandon, Stephanie, Brian, Rachael, Andrew and Jack Henry; six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Helen (Deane) Satterwhite, of Mount Sterling.  

Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Harrodsburg Road by Whit Criswell. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Gilbert Stasel

MUNFORDVILLE – Gilbert Stasel, 92, of Munfordville, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Hart County Health Care Center.

He was the son of the late John Calvin Stasel and Renee Smith Stasel and husband of the late Doris Jean Wilson Stasel. Mr. Stasel was a retired farmer, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Cave Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by one daughter, Debbie Taylor and husband Jerry, of Upton; one daughter-in-law, Ann Stasel, of Munfordville, one brother, Tom Stasel of Munfordville; two sisters, Pernie Stanton and Dorina Joyce, both of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Stasel, and a brother, Austin Stasel.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home with burial in Campground Cemetery at Bonnieville. Visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the Sego Funeral Home.


RED BOILING SPRINGS, Tenn. – Clay Dean Bailey, 64, of Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013. Funeral service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville. Burial will be in Clementsville Cemetery in Clay County, Tenn.

RINEYVILLE – Steven Hascal Bush, 53, of Rineyville, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home, Elizabethtown. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

LOUISVILLE – Agnes D. (Ford) Gravens, 89, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013. Funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Union #1 Baptist Church in Fountain Run with interment to follow in Union Cemetery. Fountain Run Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

GLASGOW – Carol S. Kjellmark, 78, died Dec. 9, 2013. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, 500 S. Green St., Glasgow, KY 42141.

FLORENCE – Dallis R. Wilson, 80, of Florence, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013. Funeral services will be noon Saturday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Hubbard Cemetery.

PRICEVILLE –Anna Sue Zajac, 78, of Priceville, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home with burial in Smith Cemetery at Priceville.
