MERRY OAKS — James Walter Allen, 76, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Barren County Health Care Center in Glasgow. Born in Barren County, was the son of the late Audrey Allen and the late Allie Myers Allen. Mr. Allen was a lifetime farmer, U.S. Army veteran and member of the Merry Oaks United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Glenna Pedigo Allen of Merry Oaks; one daughter: Judy Chambers (Coleman) of Portland, Tenn.; one brother: Bill Allen (Wilma) of Merry Oaks; two sisters: Jean Pursley of Glasgow and Dorothy Witty (James) of Glasgow; two grandchildren: Ben Chambers (Mary) of Merry Oaks and Shannon Sieck (Eric) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one great-grandchild: Leah Lane Chambers of Merry Oaks; and several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Rodney Allen; and two sisters: Hilda Furlong and Viola Allen. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Merry Oaks Cemetery. Visitation will be after noon until 8 p.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home. She was the daughter of the late Cecil Dowdie and Mildred McDaniels Dowdie. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elroy Branstetter. Funeral services were 11 a.m. EST Monday, Nov. 2, with burial at Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery, Horse Cave, at 2 p.m. EST. Valorie D. Book
